You'll see them sold at GSA auction for $10,000 each to local municipalities. Just another massive black hole of waste for the US taxpayer.

Here's how it went down:
They sent them over to Afghanistan, unloaded them from the plane and someone said "What the hell are we supposed to do with these?! There ain't no water over to run a boat!!! "

Boats got shipped back stateside.

My buddy rigs boats for GSA and other government outfits. Recently, he had an order to re-rig 20 or so patrol boats with electronic controls at a tune of 5 figures per boat.
Why?
The training officer thought they were cool. No affect to the performance of the boats or the increased utility of the government's asset.
What's more- They were training and backup units, not the real patrol vessels.

$200k bye-bye.

The Navy had a local boat builder here design and construct a patrol craft that could be built as a kit or transported in a 40' container. It was intended for coastal/river patrols and would be cost effective to give to other friendly nations.
Here it is:

The FY 2015 US Military Budget is $495.6 billion, second only to Social Security. These boats are chump change compared to the overall picture.
