Exclamation Apple Airport Express problems-Need help

I have a stereo system set up at the bay for the outdoor speakers. Its basically an amp, an Apple Airport Express and a set of outdoor hard wired Yamaha speakers. The Airport Express is NOT connected to the internet, I connect to it wirelessly for the sole purpose of controlling my music out by the pool

When I had an iphone 4-S it worked flawlessly, I could adjust the volume, change songs, make play lists with ZERO problems. Now that I have a 5-S, I can turn it on and connect but as soon as you do anything such trying to change songs, the entire thing locks up and won't do anything. Won't even play music through the phone's speakers if you disconnect from the Airport Express. The only way you can get it to play again is by doing a hard reset of the phone. I know for CERTAIN its not just an issue with my phone because it does the same thing with my wife's

Does anyone have any insight to a problem like this? I looked around on the net and it seems I am not the only one with this problem but I cannot find a solution. I spoke to Apple and the guy I talked to said it was a problem he had never heard...not sure I believe that.

If I CANNOT get this to work, is there anything I can replace the Airport Express with that will do the same thing?

is the music you are trying to listen to through the amp and outdoor speakers on the 5s or in another location such as your computer?

Try a hard reset on the air express, you using the "remote" app on your phone?

Yes, I am using the remote app...I have no internet down there.

Wifi connection, may want to check the app compatability or update for 5s

Is the airport express firmware up to date? You can find out by opening the airport utility on the phone while connected to it. Also, hard reset the airport express and delete the wifi connection from your phone (forget this connection) and then set it back up.

Ok, I will bring it back to town and do both of these.
