Default New medical law mandated private conversation with child.

You got to be kidding me???? Thankfully, I don't live in Michigan or have kids under 18. This just blows my mind.

Why? I'm not saying I agree with the law, but why does it blow your mind? I can see several instances where a child that age would lie to a doctor if their parents were in the room, where that false information could reduce the ability of the provider to issue proper care. Some questions off the top of my head...Are you sexually active? Have you ever done drugs? etc.

I attempted to find "law" requiring this, and couldn't. Turns out no such law exists, and the sign has been taken down. The facility is apparently refusing comment as well.

And why are these questions any of the schools business?

That would be met with a swift "NO."

Using that BS excuse I guess you would be ok with school officials stopping by your house, unannounced, to do an inspection of your house, your computer, etc.

BTW - schools are in the business of TEACHING children, their role is not to make certain children are receiving proper medical care.

I sit and wonder where this country is headed when so many people have completely lost their minds and have no problem surrendering their rights.

I'm still wondering why anyone is talking about schools.

First, this story has already been proven false.
Second, this was a story about medical providers, not schools (or their employees) asking questions.

Reading...it aint for everyone.

I know this is fake, but if there was a law like this congrats on making it to where parents of abused children would never let their kids get the medical treatment they need.

If the parents are abusing their children, what makes you think they're getting the care they need as it is?

I brought my wife in to Lowell General ER last winter. When she finally got into the triage room and the nurse verified she wasn't going to drop dead, she asked "Do you feel safe in your home?" Apparently it's a Mass law that they do abuse screening. I left at that point to re-park the car and my wife told me she was asked a few more detailed questions.

I think screening like this is not a bad thing as long as the screener is properly trained or works from a script.

And how do you suggest we fight illiteracy without schools?

I was responding to the post specifically mentioning schools.

As for this story....where was it proven false? It is my understanding that sign existed and the picture you see was taken my an irate mother who raised hell. The hospital quietly removed the sign and have clammed up ever since. Reading is hard.
