Default "Celebrities" Using the web for Damage control

Former American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry committed the unforgivable sin on Fox News when he would not sing “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee” during the "Fox and Friends" after-show on Friday.

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of D-Day, "Fox and Friends" co-host Steve Doocy asked Daughtry to sing the song with co-hosts Anna Kooiman, Clayton Morris and Heather Childers, reports Mediaite.com (video below).
Daughtry, whose band had left the stage, said, "I'm off the clock, I'm gonna watch you all."

After Childers picked up a tambourine, Daughtry announced, “This is where I bail,” and walked off the stage.

The rest of the hosts followed him, except Kooiman who climbed off the front part of the stage to find a girl in the audience to lead the singing.

Outrage followed on Twitter where people attacked Daughtry for not singing the song.

Reaching out through the web.

----------------------------------------

He feels he is put on the spot, feels pressure, maybe he would mess up the words, forget the words, who knows.

After having time to think about it and seeing the social media pressure, he post an apology.

The apology seems sincere.

With the internet, the speed that information is passed throughout the world (even this post can be seen everywhere) damage control is vital for anyone that depends on the public for their livelihood.

Maybe youtube should have a channel just for apologies.

Never heard of him before now.
He looks like Joey Lawrence.
Dont know if he was caught off guard / put on the spot or if he is an anti-American douche bag.
I do know expressing anti-American sentiment to a FoxNews audience is a bad career move.

Never heard of him either but must he be just another one who enjoys his freedom but never did anything to help achieve or keep it. There's seems to be a bunch of these freedom leeches running around lately.

If he's truly sorry, he should open every concert appearance singing "My Country 'tis of Thee".

Never heard of him and don't care.

Yes, yes, I know what you are thinking. If I don't care, why did I comment?

because, if I didn't comment, you would not have known that I did not care.

My country tis of thee. Sweet land of liberty, hm hmmm hm hmmm...

That's what I was thinking, I remember something about pilgrims pride. They put him on the spot and all of a sudden he's not patriotic because he doesn't remember the words to an obscure song. Yes, it is obscure, I can't remember last time I heard it played. Singing a song has as much to do with patriotism as the size of the flag at the car dealership

I don't believe I've heard the song for 45 years. We used to sing it in grade school.
But I do believe I still remember the words.
Not that Daughtry should have to. Why do they always have to try and make news where there isn't any ?

Lyrics from http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/games/song.../mycountry.htm

My country tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died!
Land of the Pilgrim's pride!
From every mountain side,
Let freedom ring!

My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love.
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills;
My heart with rapture fills
Like that above.

Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees
Sweet freedom's song.
Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.

Our father's God to, Thee,
Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright
With freedom's holy light;
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God, our King!
