Apparently he got one complaint.

He's been teaching 30+ years.

Most of the parents are saying: "Hey...history is history."

They're fine with it.

Default Cynical questions

Do you suppose the fact that he is close to retirement could be a factor in the administration's reaction? If she gets terminated, wouldn't she lose her retirement?

She needs to lawyer up immediately IMHO.

Story says asst principal was sitting on on the lesson and was the one was stopped video and said it was offensive. Teacher knew principal was coming in and had been teaching for 36 years probably watched it countless times. Kids and parents were fine with it according to story.

I'm guessing they had to stop the history lesson until the "administrative educators" had their chance to re-write it.

From the sound of it, the assistant principal completely missed the point of the lesson. But, what can you expect?

I'd rather see teachers like that history teacher in our schools than the teachers who have sex with their minor students (seem to be more of the latter).

Yep - schools are real real careful to not do anything non politically correct -- many schools will not even discuss current events as everything is twisted into politic and ideologism and the kids have the same slant as the parents...and yes a critical discussion of history and history lessons suffer as a result

Did you ever wonder how much of the history we were taught in school was based on bad information or just plain false? Quite a bit, as I am discovering.

Some of it may have been oversimplified, but not intentionally false.

I remember what I was taught about the US Gov't treatment of the American Indians. That qualified as both false and intentional, although my teachers had nothing to do with the falsehood. My teachers taught me what they believed was true.

What did they teach you that was patently false? Did they teach you that all of those Indians an Buffalo died at our hands with no reference to disease? I read something very interesting the other day. As you may or may not know, out country was settled at bit after the initial arrival of the first Spanish explorers in the New World. I was reading a page on pandemic disease, not treatment of the Indians per se, It was talking about how in the worst cases, smallpox could have a fatality rate as high as 30% even amongst Europeans who had developed some form of resistance not to the disease itself, but to the effects. OF course, the folks in the New World had not seen an Old World disease for what? At least 12,000 years in the case of many in Central and South America? I had heard numbers of up to 90% fatality amongst the native. Of course, I had also heard that regardless of the numbers, the vast majority of those who sided did so having never laid eyes on a white Eruopean. The diseases got there before the human carriers ever did. What did surpass me was and assertion that by the time the "pilgrims" got to Massachusetts Bay in 1620, those diseases had already reached that far north and east and substantial portions of the population had already dead. I had never heard that before and I a a historian. Not sure how accurate is is, but my point is be careful about how you define intentional falsification.
