Default Just a thought on POT

So pot is now legal in Washington state and Colorado, I don't know if you can legally board a flight in either state with pot on you, but assume you can or do and don't get caught.

While in flight your plane get diverted to another state, Arizona or California, when you disembark they discover the pot, do you go to jail, or are they understanding of the circumstances and just confiscate your goods?

My guess is that you have to comply with the state laws that your in.
Like a CC permit, your OK in your state, but not in a "shity" like LA or NY.

Pot isn't legal in California? Did anyone tell them?

Are you planning a road trip? Emphasis on TRIP!

Pot is still a federal crime, so I don't think I'd try taking it on a plane.

I don't smoke nor have I ever, the thought came to me and I figure at some point in time it will crop up and bite someone.

And yes it makes perfect sense to just buy your weed when you arrive but then some pot heads aren't the brightest and some would just want to test the system.

You don't want to fly to a state that has no medical or recreational law. You will have a good chance at being arrested if you are going to have to go through security for a connecting flight. If you are just flying to a state with no medical/rec laws you will be fine as long as you just fly in and don-t have connecting flights that make you have to go through another security check.
You can put a pound in your carry on and fly wherever in CA. Been there, done it. I know lots of folks that are flying with a pound in their carry on from CA to CO. No worries.

Oh this is for actual ganja only. I do know one person that was arrested/taken to the clink for having 1/2 lb of bubble hash in his bag. Concentrated cannabis is still a bit of an iffy circumstance even in CA. Generally the Leo's frown upon concentrated cannabis like either bubble hash or oils.

That should tell you how long ago it was....

Big Al was only paying $200 back then, so he wasn't a buyer....

My understanding is that since it is still an illegal drug per the Federal Government, and the airport security is run by Federal agency, DHS, then you can be arrested for possessing weed and possibly have federal charges brought against you.

All bullshit in my opinion. The states and feds need to get on the same page and legalize this stuff once and for all. I cannot tell you the amount of time wasted trying to iron out these types of issues.

There was a bust recently in the Northeast where 1lb of kush was purchased for $6500.

I'm realy asking just in the case of a diverted flight, weather related airport closed etc. Another words, not your fault you wound up in Az. or where ever.

Obviously I am no expert, but I would think as long as you didn't have to run your bags through a security checkpoint at the new airport you would be fine. I certainly wouldn't leave the secure area with ganja in my checked baggage or carry on bags if I landed in an unfriendly state.
People I know fly all over the world all the time with ganja. Even through customs. Sure there are ways to pack that are better than others, but the main aspect to me is the actual carrier. Some folks can be mules and some folks don not have the mental stability to be mules. Same as in a car crossing the country. Good reliable transporters are few and far between, and they are paid handsomely for their ability to remain calm and unaffected by unpredicted circumstances.

Pot is not, legal. Just because the state doesn't recognize it illegal, doesn't mean it trumps federal law.

The debate for federal law Vs. States rights we will have to leave for the bilge.

Fair enough, I am just saying when the Feds decide to come for you, they won't care what the state says.

Yes and no. The White House has chosen not to enforce the current marijuana laws, however, an aggressive agency or federal prosecutor could cause problems.

In regards to taking marijuana on an airplane, its just a bad idea. You could potentially open yourself up to legal issues that will cost you significant $ to fight.

It is illegal to take pot out of Colorado. Colorado Springs airport has a "green box" for the forgetful people who bring it to the airport. DIA does not. People have always flown with drugs. Your choice.
