Common practice around here. If we are on public waters we just shoot back. If we are "poaching" fish on somebody else's property we run like like hell.

Once off Montauk. We were running in a 26 regulator shark fishing. We established a chum slick and set out our lines. Just as we were relaxing and popping a few tops on some cold ones we see this as*hole in a small cabin boat that looked like a single engine 24 foot hydrasport cruising right toward our chum slick. We tried to wave him off but he just ignored us!! I know this guy had to see us. He continued RIGHT INTO OUR SLICK!! Naturally we were sending a few choice words his way so this shit throttles back and stands right there on his boat, in the middle of our slick and starts laughing, flips us the bird and guns his boat!! I was livid! So were my fishing buddies. Being young and hot-headed we hauled in our gear and gave chase thinking we'd get his numbers or something to identify him and deal with it later. Once we started to get close the shit lifts a rifle and fires!! Then he fires again!! I'm pretty sure these were warning shots but I had no doubt that his next shots wouldn't be. At this point as much as I wanted to ram right into the shit I backed off and left. We set up elsewhere and caught a 120 pound Mako and a 160 pound thresher that day. Never saw the little shit or his rat boat again. lucky for him. Haven't had another incident in over 30 years of fishing but haven't ever left the dock unarmed since that day, and I've never tried to chase another boat down either...

Yes.....at a favorite fishing spot that I have fished for 20 years. Went back for the first time after my grandad passed away and after about 30 minutes heard a BOOM right over our heads. Next thing we know a clay bird comes flying overhead and landed in the middle of the creek. Low and behold a private company set up a skeet range that fired right over our spot! No harm no foul, we hollered at them and they changed the direction. Tell ya one thing though its unnerving hearing shots coming at ya and having no clue why..

you sir should stay out of Montauk. You don't have a clue. your slick is below the surface not that shining piece of water on the surface.
your chasing boats down? I call complete bullshit.

Heard of people in the keys waving guns at people for catching lobster behind their homes.

Yeah we have a live fire area around camp lejuene nc. Better not go in there when they are live firing, got caught in there a long time ago Ina small boat they didn't see us. Also big bombing range out around pamilico got a little to close one night when they were doing helicopter training. Of course they didn't see us so it wasn't like they were shooting at us.
Also came around a corner one early morning and some duck hunters popped up from a blind shooting and scared the shit out of me. Guess I sent some ducks their way as I rounded the corner. I hit the deck while I was still running.

As a teenager a friend and I were bass fishing when three guys with weapons in camo fired a round across the bow, ordered us to bring the boat to land were they tied us up and stole the boat.

35 years ago but I will never forget it, I thought they were going to kill us.

Part of Lake Erie is blocked off for military testing @ Camp Perry. I've been close to the border and could clearly hear the guns going off. I never seen anything hit near me but if they did I would be dead.

ME!

Got shot at by my dock neighbor just because he caught me and his WIFE in the cabin of my boat!

We were "Counting the life jackets for compliance purposes." ... yeah, THAT'S IT ... counting life jackets.

Regards,

Not "shot at" in the traditional manner but rather an A-10 Warthog

Waterfowl hunting on Bloodsworth Island (Chesapeake) in the 1990's. The island is owned by the US Navy and used as a bombing target for aircraft coming out of the Pax River. Of course there are signs all over the island to "stay out" but locals have been hunting and fishing on the island for several hundred years and even to this day. Most the time the Navy will give you a heliopter warning to leave or a low fly-by to get everyone out.

I wasn't paying attention as I should have been and the tide went out leaving by boat on the mud. No big deal at the time since the ducks were flying pretty good and I was having a pretty good hunt.

Did I mention there was a dense layer clouds at 500ft or so? It was rare for any Naval activity to take place in December or January so I was suprised when I heard the A-10's. They circled the island a few times but I doubt they saw me. If I could have, I would of jumped in the boat and run like a scared school-girl. But I was stuck. And the plywood cut-out of the ememy tank about 300 yards away didn't make me feel any better.

I heard the 50-calibers start up. Fortunately they must have been shooting on the north end of the island because neither the decoys nor the boat had any holes. At least I didn't see any from my vantage point low in a nearby ditch.

I always imagined that I might one day die from a waterfowling accident ...... falling over board ...... stranded ....... swamp a boat. But I never guessed that I'd be killed by a 50.

Here's some history if the Island: http://www.bayjournal.com/article/bloodsworth_island146s_flora_fauna_too_often_caugh t_in_the_crossfire

When I was a little kid we were trolling for dolphin in the keys, there was a charter boat captian on a nice weed line by himself. Us an 2 other boats trolled up about the same time, we stopped on the other end of the line and started catching. Another boat trolled by the charter on the other side of the line and apparently pulled the school he was working. The captain fired off a few rounds into the air from a revolver, we took this as our cue to find somewhere else to fish.

Was bass fishing a small pond with a buddy and saw a kid with what sounded like a .22 I didn't have a clear view but it looked like he took a couple shots across the pond didn't investigate and left the area as fast as the electric motor could take us.

Yes...I was shot at in a pretty remote area of northwestern Colorado.
I was fishing a stream in a stand of trees.
The elevated dirt road meandered with the stream but several hundred yards away across the flood meadow.

I hear the crack and bark flies above my head. I dive to the ground and the second shot cracks into the tree. I roll into the water and hug the stream bank... reaching for my sidearm.
I fire two shots into the air, and then start hollering..."I'm down here...stop shooting!!!"

The guys got back in their truck and drove off. I believe they thought I was an elk or were just shooting into the trees.

Lucky for me, I was always on the big gray boat that did the shooting.
