Default The great ethanol scam , screwing more than than the float your carb

Supermarket prices are scary !

Conversion of corn to ethanol in the US since 2005 has been a major cause of global food price increases during that time and has been shown to be ineffective in achieving US energy independence and reducing environmental impact. We make three key statements to enhance understanding and communication about ethanol production's impact on the food and fuel markets: (1) The amount of corn used to produce the ethanol in a gallon of regular gas would feed a person for a day, (2) The production of ethanol requires so much fossil fuel energy that its energy benefit is only about 20%, and (3) The cost of gas made with ethanol is actually higher per mile because ethanol reduces gasoline's energy per gallon.

I guess my question for the thread is, am I the last to know about this ?

American policy is dictated by politicians, banking, and big corporations. It doesn't matter what is best for the American people as long as the corporations, politicians, and the bankers are getting what they want... and that's our money.

Did you know we are the largest exporter of gasoline and oil in the world? Using ethanol allows us to export more gasoline.

Look up fracking if you really want to have some fun.

Yes... we still import oil even though the US has more oil than Saudi Arabia. Since it has become profitable we have started extracting oil from shale. There is more oil under the ground in the US than in all of the middle east. Why do you think Dubai built one of the worlds largest cities in the past decade. They know the middle east oil era is nearing it's end and they need other industries to carry it into the future. We sell refined and unrefined oil products. We export bunker which is crude oil to China. We export gasoline all over the Caribbean, Central and South America. There is a large refinery in St. Croix USVI.

It doesn't matter if it works. It's doesn't generate the revenue that oil and natural gas do. Remember... Corporations run America! You do realize that the elected government is made up of lawyers and businessmen right?

Every 4 years they start going off about the energy crisis... Its all a scam.

"Energy crisis" Why are the 200, 1000 watt mall parking lot lights on at 4 am ? Is someone going to steal the yellow lines off the concrete ?

There's no energy crisis. No one's claiming there is.... Energy prices are driven by Wall Street investors/speculators.

Yes. We are still a net importer of crude oil and have been a net exporter of refined petroleum products (gasoline and diesel) since 2007, maybe earlier.

BTW- that comment about E85 and small engines- believe you meant "E15" not "E85". E85 has been around for several years and would certainly damage any small engine if used as fuel, not bad as a de-greasing agent.

"I guess my question for the thread is, am I the last to know about this ?"

There's a guy living under a rock in upper Mongolia that doesn't know!

The E15 that Hussein is pushing will be a real cluster _______ ! It will kill all kinds of existing motors, drop MPG even further, cause more feed and food shortages, raise food prices and the list goes on. There's nothing good for the American people by putting corn in our gas!

I always knew it was a major scam using all that oil to make the ethanol in the first place, I didn't know that's why $70 will only fill 2 bags at the grocery store half the time.

Even Fat Al Gore backtracked, and he was the deciding vote

Gore was the tie-breaking vote in 1994 when the Senate voted to authorize ethanol production.

U.S. corn ethanol was not a good policy-Gore
