Thumbs down Honeymoon help...

So the future wife and I are trying to knock out our honeymoon booking rather soon. Running into tons of mixed thoughts and crazy price points.

After researching similar threads on here, BVI, bitter end yacht club, Virgin gorda, etc were all highly spoke of.

So further research and ideas we entertained were chartering a powercat from moorings for 5 days, hit all the hidden gems and or not AS touristy areas, then spend a few days on land getting pampered, she found and loves Surf Song resort in Tortola.

Unfortunately were looking at almost 12k for 10 days. So we need to scale it back a hair, into a more affordable price point, but still a beautiful non commercialized non cruise ships all over sort of area.

I know you only have one honeymoon etc, but as we aggressively knock out debt and have our eyes set on getting out of the red, I feel it would be irresponsible and selfish to spend 12k when that could have knocked out one of our school loans entirely.

She's mentioned St. John. Etc, I just don't know. So I seek your help. We love to Snorkel, water activities hiking etc, but don't want to be bombarded by hey mister mister American buy this, buy that, etc.

Thoughts? Should we just do 7 days is 10 too much? How much did you spend on your honeymoons (recents)

EDIT:

well folks, staniel cay yacht club it is, just booked er.

read every single damn review the internet had. and it is exactly what we are looking for.

bring it!

Turks and Caicos

Fishing, snorkeling, etc.

Rent a condo or a house.......not some all inclusive place.

We went for 7 days......chartered two boats for two days, blew it out, etc.......all in for $6Kish.

Slickcav - I just went through this with my wife. I spent a great deal of time researching our honeymoon and we ended up on Scrub Island in BVI. We stayed at the Scrub Island Resort and Spa. It's the only place on the island and is Marriott property. Peter Island was a close second. You can spend a month down there and not see everything or feel like you spent enough time. Stay out of USVI, dirty and you get the mister mister t-shirt sales all over you. The BVI's are much more exclusive and because of that it keeps a lot of the riff-raff out of there.

Just a thought. Maybe rent a place in the Keys on the ocean with dockage. Then rent a boat for your entire stay. You will have freedom beyond belief, and there are just tons of places to snorkel, hike, fish, party all right here in the good ole USA. No passports, no tourist mongers. It's not Bora Bora, but it wont break the bank either.

You need to research conch key resort, on Walker Cay, in the keys. Secluded, romantic, quaint, you get the drift.....

That sounds expensive for a boat. Here are some cheaper options http://www.sailtmm.com/Tortola/ratesataglance-power.cfm

I did a BVI Charter on a 34 mainship. Was perfect. I have done only sail charters since. Sailing is the only way to go in the BVI, even for us powerboaters.

Pocono Gardens Lodge!!! (Yeah, I'm an East Coast brat!) It was a fun honeymoon, though. Hayrides, snow, fires, great food, heart-shaped tub in the room... so... old... school!!! Hahahahah!

We just got back from our Honeymoon a few weeks ago at Paradisus Palma Real in the DR. I was skeptical of the DR but it turned out to be one of the most relaxing weeks of my life. We did the "Royal Service" so we had a butler and some other perks which was nice and everyone there was very accommodating and nice. Plenty to do on the property with multiple restaurants and then very easy to do something off property as well.

I have bare boated all over the BVI's but money is a little tighter so we opted for a less expensive option.

Your on the right trail with St. Johns. Do the Westin for 10 days and $7k. You can rent a boat and explore the rest.

Pussers Marina Cay in BVI. Very secluded, only about six rooms on island and around $150/nt.

Bvi on a sailboat is the way to go, and I'm not a sailor by any stretch of he imagination. I went on a family trip on an international 50 sailboat crewed and captained with moorings. It was an unbelievable trip, one I'd highly recommend, though privacy on a sailboat on a honeymoon leaves a little to be desired...

Also, there's a string of islands somewhere down there, I forget where, where you rent everything and its camp out huts island to island bring it in bring it out. They're privately owned and its all local business you rent your boat and gear from.

We were torn between that and switzerland, switzerland won.

You should be able to get something epic for under 10k, that's a solid budget.
