Default Home Depot-Vets discount

Just an FYI, they are requiring a registration to receive future discounts. This accomplished by the associate filing out a form and issuing you a discount card. You use your phone number to verify any discount on future visits.

HD will also not allow the discount for common building materials such as plywood and 2x4s. Lowes does none of this.

By this you are saying that Lowes does give 10% discounts on any item correct.

That has been my experience with Lowes even with items already on sale. I like Lowes and their policy. Never did get a good rapport with HD.

That was my experience... I was surprised when I purchased a few bags of cement and there was no discount. The teller then asked around and told me a recent change in policy was to have a growing list of common building supplies that the discount does not apply but you have to check the math to figure out which ones. It will say you are getting a 10% discount but it does not apply to common building supplies. You will get the discount on other items purchased at the same time but if you run the math you'll see. I'm not complaining at all as I appreciate but do not expect anything though I have to admit I just go to Lowes instead of wondering now.

I have noticed that Lowes now requires a picture ID (military, either active or VA) whereas it used to be a copy of your DD214 was acceptable.

I always get 10% on building supplies. I think my teller might not be the sharpest tool in the shed. Ok question where else do you guys get discounts at?

Maybe stores are different. In my area, just show the ID card and you're good to go no questions asked. Pretty simple and painless at Fort Bragg area. Never had to show DD214 or anything.

Your VA card has to say 'service connected' around here at HD.

My local Lowes went to picture ID.

We used to just show our drivers license. Florida started indicating if you were a veteran on your drivers license. Just had to bring a DD214 with you when you renew.

Now I show my VA card.

No problem; whatever it takes to get that 10% discount!

I would think it's a national policy but maybe it's regional. It does not tell you the discount is not being applied. It just says you are getting it but the 10% is not applied to a list of specific items.
