Default Maui Jim question

Wife dropped her 8 yr old MJs and the frame cracked in half under one of the lenses. She bought a new pair but before I completely ruin the old pair trying to repair them - MJ customer service is so good I was wondering if maybe they'd fix the old ones for a fee? Gonna shoot them an email but anyone with past experience?

Not for free, but negotiate!
I sent mine back to have the lenses replaced. They gave me one price, I balked and they dropped it in half. They actually sent me new glasses!

I found a pair of MJ's on the beach once with two very scratched lenses and one arm broken. I left my stuff near them while I surfed for quite a while and nobody claimed them so I brought them home and sent them in to MJ asking for a repair. I would've been more than happy to pay, a lot, because even $150 in repairs + shipping would've been cheaper than buying new. I never heard anything so thought maybe they weren't going to repair them and then one day I checked the mail and I had a brand new pair of that model in a box, free besides my shipping cost to them and no questions asked. I've worn MJ's since.

More recently I had a pair that I'd had for probably 6 years develop a crack right down the center of one lens. They were also pretty worn in general, you couldn't even read the serial number or model on the inside of the arms. I sent them in using their online system and I don't remember exact numbers but I think grand total I might have paid $20 and again got a brand new pair back in the mail. I even told them that I'd had them for a long time and that repeatedly being banged around in my car and on the boat had taken a toll so I expected to pay a lot more.

I feel like I've been exceptionally lucky in dealing with MJ and must get the customer service reps that are feeling particularly happy/generous but there are a lot of companies that could learn a lot from them. I would absolutely send your wife's broken pair in and see what they say.

I just sent back a pair last week that had broken in the upper corner causing the lens to fall out and scratch. I went to the website and filled out the return form. I will let you know how it works out. I do miss them.

My son just stepped on my prescription pair that I got in June (to replace the ones I left in a rental car). I ordered them from LensCrafters, so I went back to see what we could do. They wouldn't touch them and told me to call MJ. MJ handles their own warranty work etc. I need to give them a call and see how it goes. Lenscrafters told me I'd probably be okay since their customer service is so good. I hope they are right.

Yup, I looked at the website last night (which I shoulda done before I started this thread) and there is a repair form. Wife's glasses are already on their way to MJ. Looks like $60 will get the frame fixed. We'll see how it plays out...

I sent a pair in after breaking the arm... was told that it would be $30. They sent them back repaired for free - I paid shipping.

I have 2 pair that got there Tuesday for scratched lenses. Each pair should be $60 to replace the lenses - but they may decide to fix em for less... who knows.

Well - they charged me for 1 out of the 2 pairs that I sent with scratched lenses... so $60 to get two pairs of glasses fixed with new lenses ain't bad. They are on the way home now...

Sweet!

They should get mine today. Thanks for all the reports. Sounds like MJ knows how to do it right.

MJ does it right! My last pair was 12 yrs old and the frame finally gave up it's ghost. The lens were in great shape, so I called MJ and they said they had 2 frames left in that style. I paid 5 bucks to ship them there, the 10 bucks to have them shipped back and 15 bucks for the replacement frame. And I swear that when the sunglasses came back the lens looked better than when I shipped them out. That was 3 or 4 years ago and I am still wearing them as my knock around yard glasses.
Not going anywhere else as far as sunglasses are concerned.

Hope they do you right. I had a pair about 6-7 years old that fell off the nail I hung them on next to the door, and cracked a lens badly. I filled out the form, told the truth, and put in a copy of my 6-7 year old nearly unreadable receipt. Expected them to call me and charge the $90 for new lenses. I got a call saying that the other lens was scratched too so they were just going to replace both lenses free and send them back. I got them back with 2 brand new lenses, and all it cost me was the $10 for return shipping. That was a few years ago. Now those same frames (the hinges really) are slap worn out, but have perfect lenses. I may have to see what they can do for them again.

Its funny how most companies want to nickle and dime you to make a few bucks. But a company like Maui Jim understands the value of treating your customers right and the great publicity that comes with it. Double thumbs up to MJ customer service!

As an update...

I sent 2 pairs into them - both had scratched lenses. I just got them back yesterday - they charged me the $60 for one pair but not the other.

Instead of replacing the lenses they replaced both pairs with new ones... nice surprise there!

Got glasses back looking like brand new. MJ charged $60 even for the new frame. Considering these things are +/- $200 I'm fine with that. Wife is thrilled - she now has two MJ shades.

Thank you guy's for this thread, just filled out the sheet, sending 3 pairs back to them, lets see what happens with this

What is funny, looking around for broken Maui's, I found 5 pairs of broken Revo's, I will see what goes on with them

I wonder who will step up to the plate when I tell them that I have 3 pairs of one or the other, under my boat at it's dock space

I've had a pair of MJ's for 15 years and just last week they were sitting on the boat seat and I put my hand down on them and busted the frame in several pieces. I believe they had become brittle with age, don't we all.

Mine will be in the mail tomorrow!
