13 billion program down the drain, but we did sell some to Canada for good price.

Maybe I mis-read the article, but I came away with the impression we spent $3 billion on the helicopters that were built, then sold them to Canada for $165 million, 5 cents on the dollar.

"Asscrackistan "

My theory is that the Afghan military is so compromised we don't want to give the our stuff because Russia and PRC intelligence will have the manuals the day after the first students go on leave.

As for them not being able to do their maintenance for 10 years, they won't be as able to back-stab us as we leave.

I didn't see 3 billion, but I saw this:

Upon signing the joint House and Senate Defense Appropriation Bill for FY 2010, the president sealed the fate of the VH-71. The bill appropriated $130 million in total for the VXX program. $100 million went towards recouping the programs various technology R&D costs while the remaining paid the Navy for its initial program studies. The administration was washing its hands of this R&Debacle, there would be no Kestrel for the foreseeable future.

Although it makes no sense that you could get 9 for $130 million, if 23 are going to cost $13 billion, UNLESS the 9 were basic units with no customization done at that point.

I agree with this reasoning.

No problem. Maybe they can store the helicopters in the $34 million building that we'll never use and will likely pay several more $million to some contractor to tear down.
