Default Heads up display (HUD) in your vehicle, like it?

If any of you guys have HUD in your vehicle how do you like it? I bought a retrofit HUD kit to fit in my Camaro, now I'm wondering if I really want to spend the money to put it in or not. I can't find any person or company that will just install it. I have a couple of people that offered to help me for $250.

I have read online several people that leave it turned off because it's distracting. Or they just leave it off because they don't pay any attention to it. I would be curious to know how many people love it versus how many people don't really care if they have it or not.

I think it looks really cool on a car but not sure how necessary it really is. I would rather take the money and apply it towards my nitrous system. Tell me what you guys think of the HUD system if you have it.

Wife's BMW has it. It is a little distracting at first but after a short while you get so used to using it I find myself trying to look for it when in my truck. I've grown to really like it and will get the option if offered on future cars. It also really helps with realizing how fast your going without having to take your eyes very far from the road.

Have it in my Vette and LOVE IT

In fact in my search for a Vette that was a deal breaker, if it did not have HUD I was not interested even though I could have added it later

Have it in my corvette. It's distracting at night but I can dim it low enough that it doesn't bother me.
Russ go to the corvette forums and search HUD. Looks like a easy install.

Had it in my BMW M5... I thought it was pointless. I knew when to shift by the sound of the engine... Go the speed of traffic and it doesn't matter how fast you are going, and if it does, then go old school and glance down at your gauge cluster....

Wife had it in her Camaro, honestly it was more of a novelty feature more than anything else, atleast that's how we felt.
Being that her car was a daily driver and wasn't being raced she saw no purpose for it other than it was cool in the beginning.

We have it in our vehicles here at work, but they're more for shooting down bad guys, and work well when combined with a Sniper Pod (for ground bad guys)

We have one on my wife's Acadia Denali. I like it after getting used to it. It is handy to see your speed without looking down. You can also use your steering wheel controls to change radio stations and you can see them on the HUD.

I can display the speed digitally on the DIC (driver information center) so I am only taking my eyes off of the road for a split second. I set my cruise just about every where I go so I don't have to look at my speed.

Tamos46- I don't think it's to tough but it's very time consuming and I have to take almost the whole dash apart. Not to keen on cutting the hole either.

I'm going to see if I can sell it and if not I will hold on to it until I can find someone to install it.

Thanks for the info guys.....more positive about HUD than negative.

Like mine cause its another gizmo..

Sky fuel gauge is a PITA to see, Wish I had one on there.
There nice but if you don't have any issues seeing the gauges below, I'd pocket the money for other things.

I have 2 aftermarket HUD's in my car and truck. One is GPS based and the other plugs into my OBDII port, both are awesome.

Not having to look down is huge for me and I can drive a bit more "spiritedly" than I would otherwise as I can view my speed and not have to waste a precious moment having to look down. If I could install a factory HUD in any of our cars/trucks I would but the aftermarket HUD's work perfectly for me and are only a bit more than $100.

Can you tell me more about the units you have, who makes them, where you got them, what they cost, what do they show, how do they work, etc.

I had it in my last 2 Corvette's. It was okay during the day, a distraction at night.
Would I add it if it didn't come with it - no.
