Default Calling surfboard gurus - Vintage Lightning Bolt

A friend gave me a 70s/80s vintage Lighning Bolt short board about 12 years ago. Soon thereafter I tried to trade it in for a lonboard at a surf shop and the owner was nice enough to tell me it was a collectors item and that I should keep it, so I did.

I now have a surf / SUP shop down the street and the owner took note of the board in my garage and offered to buy it from me or trade it for a SUP. I almost never surf anymore (dabbled in it but never really got into it) but I do paddle board often, so the surf board is no good to me for practical use but a SUP would be.

At this point I have no idea if the Lightning Bolt surf board is worth $200 or $20,000. Can anyone help me out on where to go to find this out?

I would get it appraised. You may have a one of a kind board that is very rare. If he is that interested in it I would guess its worth more than you think.

Great links! I have 2 boards in my garage that I would like to sell. They are both 20-25 years old and in good shape. They were custom shaped in Indialantic, FL by Steve Forestall.

This is my '67 Oceanside...that I bought new in 69 when I got out of the Navy and came back to Florida.

6' stick....nice thick rails so it till floats me even though I have put on a few pounds over the years....

I had it refinished last year at a surf shop in New Smyrna beach. I was offered $450 - $500 for it then...

I still have sex wax in the fridge! It's been 2 years since I have been in the water. Back in the late '70's early '80's I was a regular in the lineup at Ponce and 2nd Light. I'll take a pic of my boards tonight.

The best two spots for surfing was at the pier or Spanish House heading down to Sebastian...

I bought my first pair of jams from RonJons back in the mid 60's when they were in a strip mall....

I was always amazed at the number of Dewey Webers they carried!

Here's a picture of my 24 year old Steve Forstall Custom 5'10. I'm 6'2" and believe me this board worked in my younger days. Don't know if it would float me now! My other board is 6'6" and narrow, still pretty short for me. With Chantal approaching this thread is giving me ideas for the weekend.

I had a Gerry Lopez lightning bolt board, bright red with a yellow bolt. Cost $125 back in 1972. Traded it in for a Gordon & Smith swallow tail. Realized in short order that a "big gun" wasn't practical for the east coast. Memories... :-)
