People do it all the time here in Arizona. Monsoons will drop and inch or two in 30 minutes and flood many streets and washes. And, without fail, people will do whatever and try to cross. That's why we now have the "Stupid Motorist Law."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stupid_Motorist_Law

Basically, if you drive around a barrier or posted area during high water and get stuck, needing rescue, guess what? YOU pay for the cost of the rescue!

I'm in the insurance business and I'm amazed at how many people drive down flood streets. Its not just the stupid I have smart customers who do the same.

Stupid people don't need inspiration to act stupid...............it just comes naturally!

There's two guys building a dock across the water from me the past couple of days. This morning I watched one of the guys cut a board with a circular saw, a 2 foot piece dropped into the water, and this guy was actually using the saw to reach it and bump it back to the dock, so he could grab it.
I couldn't believe it........................Real Stupid.

They are not stupid, just people like you and me taking what they feel is a reasonable chance.

taking a reasonable chance is playing BlackJack. Lining up one after another to drive through 4 feet of water and seeing cars ahead of you stuck is just stupid. Or maybe its genious....dont wanna pay for the car anymore, go get in line and wait your turn.

I can be that stupid. Went to the river house for the 4th even though I knew it was hitting flood stage. Went up river by boat to a party got purdy drunk. Came back to a little water in the yard and a foot or so deep in the road but decided sleep it off and worry about getting out the road in the morning. Woke up at 6 and water had come up another 1.5 feet over night and was flowing under the house. Jumped out of bed threw everything in the 4wd and barely got out the road. Water more than half way up the doors but couldn't take photos at that point but made it out ok. ...............................................Name: flood_zps328c61b9.jpg

I like the train pictures - should they know better?

The stupidest I have personally seen was the neighbor across the street in SANDY (who is an MD - do they need common sense?) - at the high water mark of the storm, there was about 30" deep water in the street and it was just about at his garage door, so what does he decide to do - I guess he panicked (or the wife nagged him) and got in his 2013 Infinity FX50 and tried to evacuate. Needless to say, he made it down the driveway and about 25' down the street before the engine seized and he and his wife were stuck.
They sat sat in the car for about 30 minutes before I did the neighborly thing and put the waders on and walked over to see if they were okay.
