Default Wow!Brazil soccer referee killed and beheaded during match

The Olympics should be really exciting...

A soccer referee was beheaded and his head displayed atop a wooden stake at midfield after a match erupted in violence in Brazil.

The bloody brouhaha began when the match’s referee, Otávio Jordan da Silva de Catanhede, became embroiled in an argument with player Linda dos Santos Abreu over a disputed call during a game in the town of Pius XII.

Friends and family of the deceased subsequently rushed the field, tied up Jordan, 20, fatally stoned him, quartered his body , and then, according to the Associated Press, which cited local media accounts of the murder, staked the referee's head at midfield of the soccer pitch.

The 2016 Olympics should be fun

The ref killed the player first.

Family then sought retribution and killed the ref (murderer)...quick justice.

That's what I read, anyway.

...I'm still trying to wrap my mind around how security wasn't active, how the family found stones to kill the ref, and how they were able to chop the body up while thousands watched?

;?

In the US one hears "Kill the ref.." all the time ..but just a figure of speech.

I guess over there they really mean it!

For sure.

I've spent plenty of time in Sao Paulo and at times (most) it seems bigger than religion.

And they took wrestling out of the Olympics? Now that makes sense.

not trying to justify it any way, but if you read the article it says that the ref and a player got into an argument on the field and that escalated into a fight. during the fight, the 20 year old referee pulled out a knife and stabbed the 31 year old player. the player died while en-route to the hospital. The fans, friends and family of the deceased then charged the field and exacted revenge on the referee. What they do not say in the article is the timing of everything. did the "fans" know that the player died? Not justifying it or anything else, but it sounds as if the referee was a little more involved than simply refereeing the game

I think it's justified. I'm also OK killing someone that just attempts murder. Why should they get a break because they failed?

The article I read says (paraphrasing), ref pulled knife, stabbed player, player died on route to hospital and subsequently friends and family (didn't mention fans) rushed the field and killed ref.

I also remember reading about "fans" somewhere but don't recall. The reports are probably a lot like reporting of the plane crash...all dead, some dead, all survived, most accounted for, etc., etc. and eventually an accurate story gets put out, though maybe never out of Brazil.

My soccer coach in high school was Russian, and he always told us that Brazilian soccer was the best soccer in the world, but he left out the beheading stuff.
