Default Spuyten Duyvil Bridge Info Harlem River info?

Hey guys, we are looking to take a trip in the next couple of weeks up the Hudson to bear mountain, I heard that the Spuyten Duyvil Bridge at the end of the Harlem river into the Hudson River is most of the time closed! I've gone around NYC a few times and NEVER saw it closed. But I don't want to take a chance and go all the way up the Harlem river to find it closed for train traffic! I know the circle line has to pass under it all day long! Does this bridge have an operator to open once you get there Or does it only open for circle line and trains? That would suck to get there and have to turn back and go all away around the east river then back up the Hudson !! Thanks for any help!!!

Railroad bridges tend to be closed to marine traffic only when trains are due. Vehicular bridges are open, usually, only when requested by a boat.

Whats the clearance on it? Maybe you will fit without an opening if you drop your antennas.

Not sure of the clearance closed, I dont think its passable even with antennas down.. But I found out they do open on command PLUS in the summner months the Bridge remains OPEN all the time it ONLY closes for train traffic then RE opens again for marine traffic! Went through yesterday around 2:00 and it was OPEN!

Depends upon tide - at low tide it is about 9-10' and at high tide it is 4-5'.

Been through there a few times. I've seen it open a few times, but closed most of the time. You guys must be timing it right, probably right after a passing. It is really tight at high tide, I couldn't get under it with my old CC. I called NYPD Harbor and they said use either channel 13 or 16.
