Default Is there a Xerox tech/rep here?

For some reason... I seem to recall one here...

I have a Xerox 6180 color laser. It started making small black "splotches" about 1mm wide x 4mm tall they appear 2 times on a page on the right side (as it comes from the printer).

Thought I'd throw it up here for any thoughts. Printer gets very light use.

If you print in each of the single colors do you see the splotches then ?

If your print an image, portrait/landscape do the marks move with the image or stay in the same place ? If they stay in the same place on the paper pretty much eliminates being drawn there by the electronics or laser and puts it back to mechanical issue.

If you roll the paper up so that black marks overlay each other is it equal to the diameter of the drum.

I'm not familiar with that machine, may be 1 drum unit for each color. Sounds like the black drum may have some damage to the surface.

Try jamming the machine just as the lead edge starts to exit the machine (open cover) see if marks are on paper before the final fusing process.
