Thumbs up Does anyone watch television commercials anymore?

I just realized that we're at the point where we even Tivo Jeopardy... the only advertisements we watch are product placement ads within a program or the very tail end of a commercial before the show comes back on (which is often an ad for a different show anyway).

If we don't Tivo it, we watching it on Netflix or on the internet... and again, no ads.

I'll agree that life is too short to watch ANY TV, but who the heck is going to spend it watching advertisements for crap?

I watched American Ninja (friend at work has a child competing in it) while it was being broad casted. I was ticked I could not fast forward through the commercials. Besides sports, I very rarely watch anything when it is actually being broadcasted.

When a commercial comes on I start my channel surfing and dont stop until I hit another program that interests me. I have roughly 200 channels and most all of em are crap so most of the time I just channel surf all the way back to the show I was watching originally. Other than college football and high school cheerleader competitions there are no programs I consider good enough to suffer through the commercials.

I do. Because I'm too damned lazy to change the channel.

Truth be known, about the only "network" TV I watch is Fox news when I go to bed. Other than that, HBO. And the only commercials on HBO are for other HBO shows, so I really don't care.

If I ever get to meet Pat the seat-sniffing Toyota Guy in real life, I'm gonna bitch slap him into the middle of next week!!

If we watch a show with the kids on live tv, they are still not old enough to know why we cant "pass the commercials"

I would NEVER pay for TV advertisement unless it was during a sporting event. Period.

I have to admit, since I only have basic cable, that I do watch some of the commercials. I especially like the AT&T ones with the kids.

Yes I watch commercials sometimes.

My current favorites are

Geico camel asking what day is it---hump day

Shaquille O'Neil Buick Lebarron, Shaq says- seeing the Lebarron the 1st time is just like his momma said the day he was born-- whowee, I wasn't expecting all that!

So I can't help it, simpleminded comedy. That being said I don't have Geico insurance and I don't own a Buick.

I don't watch tv much. Don't have cable or satellite. I do have an over the air antenna but nothing worth watching on it. I recently re-subscribed to netflix but that probably won't last long either. I'd rather read a book.

You are much better off reading a book. Smart thinking.

I thought commercials are there to have time to respond to threads.
Remember the Multi-tasking thread?

Sometimes there are so many commercials I have forgotten what show we were watching.

I DVR a few shows and FF like most do.

Flip back and forth between two shows. When the commercials start, I use the LAST button until one of the shows is back on. Whichever comes back on 1st usually wins.

But, the new Geico Old MacDonald commercial is hilarious!

If you are nerdy enough there are ways to hack a DVR so that commercials are skipped on playback. No need to fast forward.

If we want to watch something live or current, we'll hit record and turn in on 15 minutes after it started and zip through the commercials for an hour show.
