4-6 month wait for a concealed carry license seem excessive?

Just turned in my paperwork, fingerprints, and $120 to the county for a concealed carry permit and was told it will be 4-6 months for a background check to be completed because of all the people applying. How long is did you wait for a permit?

I don't know what state you live in but it sounds about right, A friend of mine was getting on our local Volunteer fire Department and had to wait 3 months for the background check to get completed due to so many trying to get a FOID card
P.S i live in Illinois.

You have to remember Mr. Obama gave all Govt. employees (with exceptions) some Furlough days (days without pay). So expect longer delays in everything the Govt. is involved with.

about 5 minutes at the sheriff's office. Filled out a form, the girl ran a computer check, asked me to pose for the camera, and as long as it took for the image to patch to the card she typed...and get her $20, I was out the door.

Florida it normally takes 90 days.
I got it done in about 40 days at the Port Charlotte office.
The guy that taught the class said the lady down there was the best.
She got it done quickly ( only 40 days )

IIRC in Virginia once you go to the courthouse/sheriff office, get fingerprinted, give them $50, and give them a cert. of safety training, they have 90 days to deny your application. I take that to mean if they are backlogged and can't get to you in 90 days from your application submission, you have a CWP.
I got mine about three years ago and it took me about 2 weeks.

got mine a year and a half ago. I went to an adjoining county (rural) and took about 6 weeks. With gun sales thru the roof, I'm sure it would be much longer today.
