Default Well look who they put in the local paper..

My Commander called me Monday to inform me that I was selected as the "Warrior of the Week" for Langley AFB. This meant I would have my mug shot placed in the paper with some bio information for the whole world to see.

Even though this is kind of a silly thing to me, I am still honored to be recognized for my hard work and thought I'd pass it along for you all to see.

I'm the military fella. Go easy on me fellas....

The guy that nominated you for the award..........did he use any lubricant or .....never mind!

Seriously.....congrats! It's always a good thing to have the recognition of your peers that you are doing a very good job. My only question is how demanding is that job since it allows you to be on this site 6 hours a day......I assume they do not monitor your internet usage.

6 hours? That's it?

I thought I was on THT at least 7 hours every day..

I normally stop by here when things are slow throughout the day, or when I have things running in the background that I have to wait on.. I am pretty quick but my keyboard makes all the typing misatkes..

Roughly (and if it's "over 10", you don't have to say! ), HOW MANY TIMES have you taken your "Commander" fishin' to get that kind of press?

GREAT JOB, Chris - and I am PROUD to have you at the helm ... errr ... in the PILOT'S SEAT at one of our critical bases!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That kind of recognition so early on at Langley says something about your work ethic, and what others have noticed concerning your dedication to the job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now - if you were in the NAVY, I'd feel even BETTER about all your hard work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You da' man, Chris - keep it up!

I thought you were taller, TOO???

Regards,

You have the question and answers down. "You already have the best job" I would recommend you wipe that ******* grin off for the next picture. Someone might think you up to something.
Good work and keep the spirit. MANY THANKS FOR THE JOB YOU DO!!!!!!!!!

Hi Chris.

Thank you for all you do!!!

I actually bought my boat from a Captain at Bolling AFB.

I see you are a systems administrator. What class of systems do you work on, if I might ask? UNIX?

Thanks for all of the kind comments. Kind of overwhelming...

So I look short, or shorter, than some of you thought huh? Well, you know how the movie stars say.. Just kidding.

Seriously though. I am about 6 feet, but I readily admit that I have grown wider in the past few years..

Downshore,

I am currently working as a Windows Admin, but my prior experience back in San Antonio (7 + years) was almost entirely UNIX. I was in charge of the Corporate Backup System - Translation - we had a Storagetek tape silo, 20 drives, thousands of tapes and a few hundred servers hooked up to it via Gig-E router/swtiches . It absolutely flew.. I could back up over 200 GB per hour, PER DRIVE.. We averaged about one TB per day during the week and 1.5-2 TB on the weekends..

Here, I am more or less underutilized since where I worked was high profile and the equivalent of a major corporation in the civil sector. Now I am working in a small business so to speak. Smaller budgets mean smaller toys..

Bruce, I have to tell you about a joke I had about the Navy - rather about a person I used to work with who was in the Navy (yes, she was stationed at an Air Force base). She would always start of damn near every sentence with "Ya know, In the Navy...." and I would always cut her off right then and there start singing the old village people chorus

"IN THE NAVY, YOU CAN SAIL THE SEVEN SEAS... THEY WANT YOU, THEY WANT YOU, THEY WANT YOU AS A NEW RECRUIT"

Pissed her off everytime!

And let me finish by saying that I have the utmost respect for the Navy and all services for that matter.. The military is like a body, it's useless without all of its arms and legs.. Well, each of the services ARE the arms and legs, including the Coast Guard...
