Default Juuuust out of curiosity... Jaguar XK

Are Jags still big pieces of shit? Saw an interesting 08 XK that was VERY nice looking. Toying with the idea of getting a second ride that's a bit sportier than my Expedition EL.

2004 saw the GIANT change with Jaguars. They ranked right up at the top (except for the small commuter car Jag). We had a 2004 XJ8 and a XK8, and then got a 2008 XJ8. Wonderful cars.

About 2 weeks ago I saw my first ever late model Jag station wagon, kinda surprised me, I never knew they even made a wagon.

My BIL picked up an '06 XKR in '09 w/16K miles.

It has teated him well, it's his daily driver unless the weather is ugly.

Only big expense so far was replacing the tires.

Definitely do not like design of new XK-F, what a let down from the 'E's of yesteryear. Even the 120's and 140's were much better looking than the new F. Performance the old ones were fine as long as you Knew Lucas The Price of Darkness.

I ALWAYS think of this when it comes to JAAAGGS... I'm not sure you are a JAAGG type of owner, BC.

Lucas hasn't been in Jags in what...20 years or more? Funny how a bad reputation continues for generations.

Lucas was a 50/60's thing but he sure caused us a lot of headaches on those old Jags, Healeys, MGs and all the rest of the LBC's.

Yep....26 years at least. I remember I bought a 1987 XJ-6 only because they had finally gotten rid of the Lucas crap.

I had an 86 and then a 92 XJ-6 - the electricals were still crap . . .

As background, I used to mess with many of those old British cars - MG, Triumph, Austin Healey, Jaguar - had a 52 XK120, a 140, e-types at one time or another . . .

If I remember correctly, the early 2000's vintage v-8's had a timing chain issue - had to change the timing chain prior to 100k or BOOM - also seem to recall a sludge issue too

Had a friend who was Jaguar master tech who kept me updated.

Got a deal on a new Lexus in 2001 and got spoiled by not having to touch anything on the car. Get tempted to look at Jags again every once in a while, but the memories are still too recent . . .

All I can speak to are the post-2004 models, and they are pretty much bullet-proof. They cut 700 pounds off the car by using aluminum everywhere, and increased the engine power; making the cars quiet screamers.
Of course, one has to like the looks, too

The XK version was very similar and used the same engine. Nice cars.

After Ford bought Jaguar in 1990, they invested 5 or 6 years and several $$$Billions to make them right; and they became a quality product. Ford sold them in 2008 to Tata (India auto company) along with Land Rover. The ford designed and built products from 1995 or so to 2008 are very good; Tata hasn't really released any new models that Ford hadn't engineered before the sale, so the future is still up in the air.

Tata make some of the crudest trucks and vechicles next to the Chinese. It would appear they are keeping there hands off this operation. The Blue Book will tell the truth.

Buy it if you love it. I have no doubt it is a good car, but it will need that special Jag service, grab your ankles. Buddy bought one for his wife in '05, sexy car, super fast with the V8, but the service at 80k or so was enough to turn it in and cut their losses.

X2.....................

Any time you buy a exotic car your looking at paying a lot more for the privilege of owning it.
They are actually a right well built car but like PJJR said. if it tears up, hold your A$$ or cover it before with a warranty.
Use to pick them and Land Rover up and deliver to the Atlanta Auto Auction for resale. Have driven about everything they made and they are class. No doubt about that. .
