Default Dishwasher Cleaner

Dishwasher is 8 years old and not cleaning too well. H2O is still hot, but dishes are not really clean. I first want to really clean the inside before moving on to other trouble shooting idea's.

Any recommendations as to best clean the inside of a dishwasher? Products, techniques, chemicals.

Thanks in advance.

I use to listen to a radio handy man show that often would recommend that a caller run the dishwasher with a cup of Tang in it to clean it and descale. Never tried it though...

http://www.bing.com/search?FORM=UP21...c=IE-SearchBox

Looks like others recommend it.

Works on stainless sinks that have lost their sheen and washing machines that may have hard water stains. Its the citric acid in the product that does it.

Dishwasher Magic...............you cannot drink it but it works great.

Great reviews on this product including mine.

Make sure your water to the dishwasher is hot (run the sink faucet till it spills out hot water) before you start the dishwasher.

You can thank the "new and improved" phosphate free dishwashing detergent! Do you have a water softner?

Yep, same with laundry detergent.

At least 20 Mule Team borax helps corrects the laundry clothes washer problem.

I have to put the jet dry in mine stil as well as the finish balls with the jet dry. There is also a screen in the bottom that you should pull and look for derby or plastic, food, etc. usually when mine pulls that there is stuff in the screen and I'm out of jet dry. The screen in the bottom looks like it might not come out but look closely and I bet it does and I bet it's full of crap. I hope this helps.

Have you ever had your water tested? Bet its hard water . . . test kits are cheap online.

"Iron out" is probably your best bet.

Follow directions on bottle.

-Rob

PS can maybe start with vinegar, but I'd go straight for iron out.

Cascade now makes the little packets that combine dish cleaner and dishwasher cleaner and spot remover all in one tab.

Clean any filters, hit it with the special dishwasher cleaner and you're good to go.

When we switched from pouring soap into the reservoir, to tabs, all was well.

Perfect guy's, thanks for all the advise. I spent a little over 2 hrs taking the spinning plastic jets off and cleanning them out. Many of the holes were clogged with debree and food junk. I am now going online to find info on filters and screens if there are any. I can't seem to figure out how to lift the bottom spinner out though, can't see any latches or attachment areas.

Tang!!!!! still laughing about that one. I wonder what it does to your stomach????

Thanks again all.
