Default For You Gearheads, Hot Rodders, + Car Nuts!

Pics from the Good Guys Spring 2013 Car Show, held at West World in Scottsdale, AZ last weekend (same place the Barrett-Jackson Auction takes place). Some of the best of the best, and some plain just interesting builds! A couple teaser pics below, about 100 pix in the Picasa link. Enjoy!

I love cars. Post more if you don't mind.
Any idea what size blower that first one is? Probably takes 50 hp to turn it, lol!

That boat combo made one of the car shows on TV last week, they were interviewing the builder/owner.

Regards,
El Camino.

Before GTO, all fast cars were "sleepers",
no need for spoilers, stripes etc....all yer needed
was a little "409" or "421" badge (and lots o' guys pulled those off)

One of the worst whoopins I ever got was from a '55 Nomad,
looked like yer mommie's car.

This 409's "awake"

Anyone remember the Motor Trend article
"Pontiac GTO vs. Fererri GTO"
This is the story that put GTO on the map

and here's the car that did it.

...and lastly, can't have a car show w/o
the original Muscle Car, the Black Widow
these were converted by a Chevrolet contractor in Atlanta Ga.
for NASCAR. First ones were FI, later models were 2,4's as they were faster.

(crank up around 4:40)

Richard Childress has one of these in his personal collection.

Was it a stock "265" or "283" or BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGER? Know a shop up the road that's doin' a body-off restor on a '56 Nomad right now.

Sounds like it's missing pretty bad at idle? ;? LOVE the sound of that thing!

Were they "Delrays" in '57 or "210 Sedans"? '58 may have been the first Delrays? ;? Very QUIET, but, if he'd gotten on it, woulda' been a different story! Would love to have a '55, '56 or '57 moded like that, although that one is "only" a 350/350. ;?

Richard Childress has one of these in his personal collection.
Thanks for the info!

The Nomad was a full built SBC...I was messing with a car on my right,
never saw the Nomad till it was too late, and I didn't stand a chance anyway.

That 409's idleing too slow....

Here's my favorite utube....
These 302's don't quit loopin' (missing) till yer got over 3500 or so.

Pretty sure first Delrays were base '58 models.

You know the GTO story,
built in a Pontiac basement by a handfull of
Pontiac hot rodders, at night. Covered
during the day. Built in spite of GM's anti-big motor/little car policy.

They carried 10,000 or so orders they took direct from
dealers to GM management and the rest is as they say history.

Ever heard of John DeLorean ?
He was the ring leader.

My Dad had a '58 Bel-Air 4-dr hardtop w/348 4-bbl and "Turboglide" xmission. FUN to drive (especially with the Turboglide!). Whatever happened to the "348" - maybe disappeared in '61 or so? ;? Was it a punched out 283? ;?

Have a friend that had a '68 or '69 Camaro SS (302) - SAME color/stripes. Man, I LOVED that thing and it would HAUL!

I assume the "missing" is the wild cams folks put in those things? ;? But when they rev, they rev REEEEEEEEEAL quick!

Whatever happened to the "348"

348 was a truck motor pressed into passenger car service
to move those big BelAires (btw, '58 BelAire 4 dr HT, very classy)

In '61, the Impala SS arrived, Chevy punched out the 348,
was a un-reliable POS. A quick re-casting of the block,
added a 4-speed, dual quad (in '62) and positraction... and
walla........

409

which begat the Z-11, Junior Johnson's 427 Mystery Motors
(which qualified '63 Daytona 500 5 mph faster than the Holman-Moody
Fords), the "semi-hemi" 396 and the almighty 427/435 Chevys.

"She's Real Fine"

409 is the only motor featured in a song.

Watch this big Impala carrying the front tire.

Chevy small block performance head 60's era, called "fuelie heads"(used on the Corvette small block w. FI) Had a set on my '56 Chevy, 265 bottom. Paid $25 for them.
