Default Boycott west marine until they bring back the pricematch!

As a life long boater in South Florida I used to shop at West Marine pretty often only because of their price match policy. Their regular pricing is a major ripoff and completely unacceptable! They sell things for 3 times the price of the rest of the world. I am very familiar with WM and their business model since my father has been doing business with them since before I was born.

They made some changes a while back and hired a new CEO, Matthew Hyde. He has implemented a no internet price matching rule so they can be MORE profitable. This new rule will cost them sales beginning with my sales since I will no longer purchase anything from WM.

Please join me in this Boycott to show WM that the consumer dictates the boating market.

Below is a link to another thread about this WM price matching policy.

Keep the lines tight and we will conquer!

So should we boycott Target if they don't price match Costco? How about Boat manufacturers, should they all cost the same? Just wondering if you should make no more salary than the poorest guy on your block? Where does this end comrade?

Evil West Marine, yeah right.

I boycott them anyway. Only if something urgent comes up that I desperately need will I visit them. In which case I accept my penalty for not planning ahead.

My philosophy is buy what you need when you need it, at the best price you can find. If WM's pricing strategy is incorrect, then natural market factors will cause them to re-think it to avoid going out of business.

With internet sales no one supplier will ever again be "the only game in town." You were willing to shop around to find the best price before so now you reward the other companies for their efforts.

Good luck!

I agree. I already boycott them because I can get the products for better prices elsewhere. If the prices come back in the ballpark I'll go back. Nothing personal.

Boycott West Marine over this?? That is silly. I believe this decision not to price match will steer customers elsewhere anyway. Greylion hit the nail on the head. Well put!

So your THAT kind of business person, huh? Are you the mechanic from the movie Vacation that asks how much you got instead of saying how much it costs to fix?

Who cares if WM price matches???? Even when they did I STILL didn't buy from them. Often times the sales tax is more than the shipping cost buying elsewhere.

Click the mouse, a few days later it hits the porch. Does it get any easier or cheaper?

I have shopped at WM for years and am a Port Supply member but often had to use the price match to get what I wanted without having it shipped. This new policy as of 3/1 is going to hurt them and whoever made that decision could well be taking WM the way of Boaters World.

Boycott Bud Light for selling swill.

Boycott New England for harsh winters.

Boycott Porsche for not giving me a free 911.

I buy local ( Hopkins Carter , El Capitan , etc ) or even online (SIM Yamaha) because of their service, and the prices are not insulting. If the service stinks, they hire people that have no clue, or if the prices are ridiculous (33$ for a gallon of 2 stroke oil) (I dont have time to play the price match game) then I take my business somewhere else.

If your preferred customer base is uneducated, eventually it will catch up to you.

I buy local and at WM. My local store has a personable and knowledgeable staff, and (for need it now items) I will use them. For items where it doesn't make fiscal sense to buy from them, and I have the time to order what I need, the net is my friend.

IMO never burn a bridge of a local chmadler- even WM.

Default west marine

Price match will be back. West marine prices have always been much higher than most companies and they don't offer anything much different than on line companies. An example is I bought a stereo on line for $281.00 and they want $399.00 I also got auto pilot for around $1500 they want $2000. they offer a warranty but so do many of the on line companies. I won't shop there.
