Wait a sec here, they are still price matching but not to online stores. Lots of places will not price match a website because the operating costs are different.

It's not reasonable to think they can match anything straight off the web.

Default Price match

the price match policy if you read between the lines what wm is really saying is if you catch us trying to screw you we will match the price of a reasonable company .So you guys say hey this is neat and jump thru thier hoops and buy at the new down to earth price and at the same time screwing the low price company you used for the price match and reward wm even though they tried to screw you in the first place. I haven;t shopped there in years and don't have any plans on ever going back

Boycott this product, it is an insulting rip off.

$ 10.99 for this cheap stamped metal P.O.S "Universal deck plate key". Why don't I just give money away free and wear a sign that sais "I am stupid" cause its the same as buying that thing from West Marine.

Example of what about $10.99 buys, look at these vice grips for the same price contain alot more metal and took alot more machine work.

Frank I was going to do this but since there are so many threads already can you ad a poll to this one while it's new, be curious to see the results.

I will still go to Worst, look at the stuff, play with it, then inform the sales people I'm going home to buy it on line.

Actually it is quoted directly from your post...#8. The repetition was for dramatic and humor affect.

Bought a 4.5" Stainless 316 Caribiner online for $9.98 free shipping. Same item today at West Marine was $36.99.

My "boycott" is simple...... Don't buy from them. It's so easy to do.

They have nothing that I can't find online for a much better price.

They are a private company. They can do whatever they want.

Like others I don't buy from WM. I either buy over the net or from a locally owned marine store within 50 yards of the WM store. I can also buy any hardware I need from the Ace Hardware store in the same strip center. This strip center is across the street from the marina we dock at.

West Marine is to boating as Best Buy is to electronics. The only reason you go in there is to physically look at a product to window shop before placing order online.

It is hard to boycott a place I do not shop at to begin with. I have always found their prices to be ridiculous so I plan my purchases to avoid shopping there. The one time I tried to get them to price match (a Garmin 441), they would not as they said the price was below their cost. I ordered from BOE and never looked back. I have no problem with how they run their business, this is after all a free market country. If there are enough people to support their business model, more power to them. If not, they will either change to stay in business of they will fail.

The customer now demands of a retailer what their pricing policy should be????? West Marine is what it is, I need it now so I pay the price. If you don't like it, don't shop there.

My issue is that the price matching just bings their prices down to reason. It seems as if they prey on the novice boater or the boater that absolutely needs something to go in there and pay stupid prices without checking. I bought my entire seastar hydraulic steering system from WM and spend 20 minutes at the register price matching. It went down 44% by the time I was done. Why have such a massive premium? It makes them lose credibility.

I shop there because it is closer to my house than the other stores down here and i dont mind paying a small premium for that. But when you try to charge me 33$ for pennzoil semi synthetic 2 stroke oil and Advance auto has it 3 blocks away for $16.99 it is an insult to my intelligence.

I dont mind paying a premium to go in, buy it, and take it home but please dont let me go home and search online and find out that i just got raped without vaseline!
