Default How much is your water bill ?

Just got my bill for the Bay place which hasn't been used much since the end of boating season

488 gallons for $166.96 or .34 per gallon

vs. main house

15000 gallons for $83.09 or .0055 per gallon

61 times the cost !

Rant over

So you're saying if your Bay house was your main house you'd be paying $5100 a month for water? That doesn't seem right at all...

Yeah, that's wack.

Maybe it's factored in by number of gallons? Say less than 500 gallons is .34c per gallon but 10,000-20,000 is 0055 per gallon.

Yeah I'm guessing he meant to say 1,500 gal. That would put him 3/4 of the time at the main house and 1/4 of the time at the bay house.

And that would make it 5.5 cents/gal

Quarterly bill for 4 people in both cases

Taxes and fees make up the largest part of the bill

Actual water and sewer were only $12 of the $166

Not really out of whack. Many places have a progressive pricing scheme, so those using more water pay less per gallon. Keep in mind there are many fixed costs as well as variable costs, and the infrastructure costs for each house don't change much if they have to deliver 100 gallons or 10,000 gallons.

I'm sure if you increased the usage at the bay place, the costs would be more inline per gallon. They want their pound of flesh from the low volume users as well.

Some water companies actually use a rate set by summer months use to set the winter rate and the sewer usage,

My last water bill was over 250 for over 55,000 gals on marco island. Irrigation water is most of it to water plants and grass.

West coast

~$100 for 5000 gal/mo. This includes sewer too.
15K gal could cost another $25/ mo during certain times of the year.

Don't feel bad, right now I am paying $13.65/month for each of 6 vacant lots I own in the city. Storm Water runoff fee. they are all around 18'x45 each

That's $81/ month on a <5000ft2 piece of dirt with no buildings/structures/water or sewer service on it just because rain may fall on my property, run off into the street and then end up in the sewer. It's all grass by the way.
They started that BS tax two years ago.

Hey, OP. How about my water bill.

Ready????

You sure????

You still there???

Ok!

$225 a quarter.

Ready for more?

The water meter has been removed because the house is not habitable.

Yup. I'm paying $225 a quarter for water/sewer that I can't use.

And THAT is why I left New Jersey.

I have to pay a minimum of $112 a quarter to town of Rock Hall for water and sewer whether I use it or not. In the ten years I've owned the house, I've never gone over the minimum.
