Phil Mickelson makes a statement about high taxes then.....
....feels the need to apologize for what he said.

This thread isn't about politics and taxes, it more about a citizen that has paid (i.e. forcefully taken) a boat load of taxes already feels the need to be very aware of what he says about a fail state taking 60% of what he earned...let alone wasting what they took.

Tiger and others have moved just because of the high taxes.

No apology necessary from Phil Mickelson, who has every right to complain about California tax hike

Agree, but he's talking non-effective rates. If he really pays that much in taxes, he needs a new accountant.

People have been leaving California for years. I grew up in AZ and I remember many discussions on leaving Cali for Phoenix.

To me, this is horribly short sighted. In terms of gross revenue collected, it could likely go down. They up the tax rate but lose the tax base. My bet is a net negative for the state in time. Folks making 60 mil a year can buy a home in any state they wish.....and homes for family members. Doesn't make sense to me.

And i really wish he hadn't apologized, thats the only thing that bugs me.

The California progressives leaned on him.

He probably apologized because he has fans that have lost their jobs, under employeed, etc... and he figured going public at a sporting event was not the best idea. If I'm correct he could have moved at any time but HE ELECTED to stay in Ca. and I'm sure no one but Phil himself decided to apologize to his fans.

Ca marginal top rate of 51.9%. guess that's their "fair share." ;?

Problem is, who wants to work and get to only keep less than half of what you earned and someone else decides how the rest is spent?

I don't care if you make 6,000 or $6MM, you are going to say the hell with it.

...........“Finances and taxes are a personal matter, and I should not have made my opinions on them public,” Mickelson said in a statement released late Monday night. “I apologize to those I have upset or insulted, and assure you I intend to not let it happen again.”.............

..............“If you add up all the federal and you look at the disability and the unemployment and the Social Security and the state, my tax rate is 62, 63 percent,” Mickelson had said. “So I’ve got to make some decisions on what I’m going to do.”....................

Be honest, say what you mean, mean what you say and apologize to no one.

I wish Welker's wife hadn't apologized for spilling the truth about that thug Ray Lewis.

Seriously ;?

Dillard88 01-25-2013 11:36 AM

Yes we're talking about taxes and apologies. Feel free to add.

Just1more 01-25-2013 12:11 PM

Welkers wife is a whore.

Danny33486 01-25-2013 12:13 PM

Is he the guy with the giant moobs?

Wolakrab 01-25-2013 12:22 PM

He never apologized for the comments, but only that he used his position as a bully pulpit to preach for change. It was sad that he felt the need to say anything at all...I have no doubt that a sponsor pressured him to do something.
I expect him to move to Texas or Florida within the next couple of years. No way would I keep paying .63 out of every dollar to a government that cannot exercise any fiscal responsibility whatsoever.

aiian 01-25-2013 12:24 PM

We're talking Mickelson's apolgogy and taxes. On that...

a. Good luck getting me to feel sorry about him about paying taxes on his millions.
b. Last I checked, there are no aremed guards blocking the highways out of Kalifornia.
c. Time for a new accountant.

Mrs. Welker should lay off the Facebook and spend more time throwing her hubby some balls. He's developed a habit of dropping balls in big time games.

lasik1 01-25-2013 12:26 PM

His numbers were way off. If paying taxes on millions of dollars earned from playing a game and schmoozing with the elite bothers you so much, move to Belgium, become a Russian citizen and share a house with Gerard Depardieu.

GWcpa 01-25-2013 12:29 PM

Gawd I hate when someone says that "don't feel sorry for" someone paying taxes on "millions."

In other words I'd much rather some other guy got poked in the eye with a sharp stick than me.

So if I pay $40k a year on taxes but he pays $10 million but a lower effective rate, he's not paying enough ? Plus RE and pp taxes? Wtf?

aiian 01-25-2013 12:32 PM

No, I just don't feel sorry for him. I'm sure he's doing just fine.

If you made 40k a year and were taxed 21k I bet you'd find a new place to call home.

Danny33486 01-25-2013 12:34 PM

Chris Rock did a bit about divorce that said something like if you're making 30 million and a chick takes sucks but you still got 15 million..... now if you're making 30K and a chick takes half...that's an entirely different ballgame.

Gotcha. Yes I agree and if I made $60mm in a good year and got taxes $31mm I'd sure as hell move too.
