Have you ever seen a cat that retrieves
This is my sons cat, Nibbler. I have never seen a cat that will retrieve something. He will continue doing this for 20 mins. He seems to love straws for some reason. To funny.

Cool vid! And yes...Aunt and Uncle had Manx kitties that would fetch a tin foil ball.

Chuckster 01-23-2013 03:23 PM

My brother's cat retrieved Bud Light bottle caps and stored them in a boot in his closet. Really bizarre.. we'd flick them across the room and the thing would bolt out of a sound sleep to get them, then run into the closet.

Weird cat

Yup, seen many do it. Entertaining nevertheless.

Redfish44 01-23-2013 04:38 PM

No but there is a member on this site that adores cats and has prolly seen one retrieve.

Back in the days when my wife and I were smoking and while we were dating..........she had a black cat that would retrieve crunched/folded up cigarette wrappers thrown out to her.

Mr. Demeanor 01-23-2013 05:19 PM

Mine does all the time. He also walks on a leash.

mikeloew 01-23-2013 05:20 PM

Wow I am surprised to hear so many say this is common, we have had many cats over the years, thanks to my wife.Never had one do this. He also brings it back and drops in in front of me every time.

One of our last 2 would bring back a bounce ball repeatedly. He would also follow us around the neighborhood like a dog and even sat in the sprinkler a few times when it was really hot out. I could point him to another room and that's where he would go. From the back door we'd yell to him by name and he'd come running like a puppy!!!

I had one that would retrieve a bouncy toy. If I didn't want to play, she would take it to the top of the stairs herself, drop it and chase it back down...and repeat. Sometimes in the middle of the night!

Lots of cats are cool, but a cat that does dog stuff is even cooler than a dog, I think.

My cat "Harley" will retrieve a small paper ball about 6-8 times before he gets tired of the game. A small paper ball about 1/2"-3/4" is the only thing that he'll do this with. ;?

Buddy in college had a cat that would retrieve beer bottle caps

Ours loved a particular purple plastic pot scrubber. Cat wanted to do it longer than I did.

One of the wife Bengals really like plastic pen lids for some reason. You would be busy writing and wondering why this cat was hanging around annoying you.

never say never 01-24-2013 03:44 AM

My cat will do that with a ball. It started when he saw the dog doing that.

redneck joe 01-24-2013 05:06 AM

Ours will only do it with a stir stick from Southwest Airlines - will bring on the bed about 4-5am every morning to wake us up to play. His other fav toy (no fetch just play) is an underwire form wifes bra.

He also loves to spend the weekends on the boat with us, sits on the cockpit table or on the back of my helm seat when we're cruising.

Years ago, I had a cold and would throw my used Kleenexes into the garbage can across the room from my chair. The cat would retrieve my misses and bring them back to me.

We had a cat that would get between people playing Frisbee and catch the low ones. He stopped when we went from a lite weight frisbee to one that was pretty heavy, just about knocked him out.

I've had several cats the "retrieved" various critters, mice, birds, squirrels, rabbits, snakes, etc and bring them into the house. Once, I found a bunch of rabbits feet in a closed box in our basement. My ex was not happy with this retrieval.

Funny...our last cat would fetch a crumbled up piece of paper. maybe 8-10 times before she would get sick of it.

On the flip side: a good friend of mine had a Rottie that hung with his cat while growing up. that 100 lb dog would dig a hole, poop in it and then cover it up. Wish all dogs would do that!

gfdriscoll 01-24-2013 07:26 AM

The cat my girlfriend and I have a cat with an obsession for hard candies in crinkly wrappers. He will play fetch for hours. Sometimes he forgets to bring the candy back though.

X2 I've had Manx cats that delighted in doing this for hours. Better retrievers than most dogs. That carried out into the hunt, as well. Mr. Earl would go hunt the citrus groves and retrieve me field rats and leave them on the back patio. Alive and unhurt, except for their feet being chewed off so they couldn't run away. The first time he did this, I was like "You sick sumnabitch!" But, near daily, he'd sit there waiting with his catch of the day, footless and alive, twitching on the patio, proud as could be that he retrieved me a trophy.

Manx cats are awesome, loyal, super intelligent creatures!
