Just took a minute to look at the photos.
Thanks for the warning. Buying left handed bananas could be an issue.

"Once I figured out I had to peel the banana before using - it works much better."

"I have served in the US Army for over 12 years. I can say that there is technology being used by the military that is rarely seen in the civilian sector. Once in a while, however, an amazing product is released by the DoD for civilian use. The 571B is one of those products. Although once called the M571B Tactical Banana Slicer (TBS)V1, they have declassified it for public use"

And this is just the first page..

Would I be correct that there are S.O.P.'s written on how to operate/do everything in the service?
How about one for this piece of equipment?
How would it be written?

YOU may prevent someone from harm from operator error.

Looks like you gotta' cut off the top 1/4 of the bananna and slice it separately?

Could be a "rotation" problem, but I don't know the difference between clock-wise and counter-clockwise.

Maybe they shipped the WRONG product and you got a SAUSAGE cutter there?

You COULD heat the slicer and re-shape it to fit the curvature of the bannanna?

OR, call a mechanical engineer and be done with it?

Maybe there's a market for PRE-SLICED banannas?

Regards,

On one of our cruises the banana came out similar to this at breakfast down in the restaurant.
This is mine this morning. Man does that ever enhance the taste.
It let's the potassium breath before eating.
Like letting a wine breath,

I should've waited for the 572, January 9, 2013
By TomKnowsBest - See all my reviewsThis review is from: Hutzler 571 Banana Slicer (Kitchen)
When I bought the Hutzler 571, I was told this is the pinnacle of banana slicing technology and that there would never be another one like it. Then I go to Gizmodo today and what was I dismayed to see?
Apparently, Hutzler is coming out with a 572 model banana slicer.
While I love my 571, the 572 is going to have a ton fo new features:
1) higher definition blades for a sharper cleaner sliced banana.
2) available in a multitude of colors (I've heard green, brown and pink).
3) new, friendlier ergonomic design to reduce the amount of stress on your wrists from pushing through the banana
4) new portable version
Sure the 571 is easy to use and just gorgeous to look at, but the 572 is going to be effortless and so cool that I can carry it with me and slice all my friends bananas as well as my own.
If anyone is looking for a slightly used 571, let me know. I'll be checking Amazon everyday to see when the 572 is coming out. Hopefully, I won't be waiting long.

If you are going to hold off for the 572, be sure to get the universal press adapter kit and specify if it is for the LD counter top model or the HD industrial floor mounted model.

Both presses have been reported to:
1. Reduce stress on the forearm.
2. So simple and safe to operate an infant can do it.
3. Assure a cleaner straight vertical cut.
4. Slice time reduced by 48.3% as reported by independent test labs.
5. Easy clean up because both the LD and the HD models are dishwasher safe once disassembled. (Disassembly time may vary)
(Allow 4-6 weeks delivery for the LD-101 amd 8-12 weeks for the HD-101)
