I used to go most days in season after lunch when in high school. We always got in to the clubhouse for 'free'

Dad played alot and taught me everything he could. I still usually lost, but then so did he.

It can be a fun way to spend an afternoon.

What I enjoy is going with a group. We handicap and compare notes, make our bets and see who comes out on top. It is interesting even if we only bet $10 or less a race, meaning it is a relatively inexpensive afternoon out.

Love the track! My grandfather was a trainer. Spent a bunch of time at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans as a kid.

I worked at the track, NY Gate Crew. Hialeah was great beautiful track, Saratoga is cool also the whole town is a nice place to visit. After 28 years on the gate let me tell ya jocks don't give up too much info they'll cold water you in a minute, thats my tip.

I owned Sandspur Man, grandson of Go Man Go. If any of you were in to Quater Horses back in the 50's 60's and 70's you would know about Go Man Go.(Three-time World Champion) I bought Sandspur Man I think in 1970 or 71 not sure now. He hurt his leg in his second race, he came in thrid in his 1st. race. They thought he was hurt to bad to race so they took him off the track. He leg healed up fine, I used him for Barrel Racing and rode him for the JSO here in Jacksonville Fl. long before they had the Mounted Police they have here in Jax now.

This site is about Go Man Go http://www.circledhorses.com/go_man_go_.htm

This site is Sandsour Mans Pedigree

Picture of Go Man Go and Sandspur Man He looks a lot like his Granddaddy.

Great People watching. I work right by the Pompano Harness Track and used to go pretty often. A buddy was a trainer and owner so they treated you like a king....total white trash crowd but great people watching.

I worked for an owner for years during and after college. Loved the track/excitement.

BUT:

Fact, no one and I mean no one can beat the track without local knowledge

"Their in the lane and here they come!"

Junkie in my junior and senior year in high school. 77' - 78'

We would bet the runners at Hazel Park in the afternoon and then the trotters at night out at DRC vice versus year in and year out.

Been to the Strawberry Hill races at Colonial Downs in New Kent, VA a few times. I've only seen horses one of those times. It's just a big drunken tailgate party.
