Does the motor spin when disconnected from the drum?

Sounds like it could be the run capacitor on the motor. If the motor "hums", but does not turn when you push the start button, try giving it a helping hand by pulling on the belt to turn it. If it starts running, then most likely it is a bad capacitor in the motor. Pull the capacitor out of the enclosure on the side of the motor, and cross reference it by physical size, terminal type, capacitance and voltage rating on Grainger's website. They are usually less than $10 to replace, and it is very easy to do yourself.

If you can spin the motor by hand with the power off the it’s probably the starter capacitor

Great replies guys.. I have the motor out, and the local supply mom and pop shop has a replacement.. Should be up and running tonight. It probably is the starter capacitor, but wifey wants this thing working yesterday, so, you know what they say... Happy wife, happy life!

Anyone want this old one with what is probably a bad starter capacitor?
