Default Ships wheel?

What are the ships wheel next to people's name and the Admirals club anchor? And what is a senior member?

The wheels are from back when ole wiley(creator of THT) owned THT. Then Internet brands bought wiley out. The wheels were wiley asking for 30 bucks per member to become a, I don't know, special, member. There were certain privledges that came with paid memberships. I believe the anchor is internet brands answer to the wheel. Paying members from the "wiley " days got to keep their wheels, for whatever good they do.
a senior member is a member that has over a certain number of posts. I don't know what exactly that number is. I'm guessing 1,000

...so what do multiple wheels indicate, that the member forgot he paid wiley and continued to pay year after year?

Wiley asked for a yearly donation, that came with an additional wheel, but the benefits (additional forum access and ability to post in the for sale areas) didn't expire.

He also had some THT swag that you could buy at a discount when you bought a wheel.

You can only advertise if you have a wheel as well right?

I sell shoes for a living and have an awesome clog that I think would be great for people who want to wear a Crocs style clog on their boat, but need some arch support and a softer EVA than a Croc.

I sell shit tons of them and was going to offer them on THT - but then I didn't want to get banned for advertising...so I looked into the wheels and got confused and gave up.

Then I thought, people could quite easily work out who I am in real life and come and take me away...so I decided against it.

If you have wheels next to yer name, it means yer dumb.

If you have anchors next to yer name, it means yer really dumb.

If you have multiples of same, it means yer a card carrying idiot.

You need to look into sponsoring the site to sell your shoes. I think the cost is fairly reasonable and generally offset by the additional sales.

Yeah, the cost was reasonable, I think $150 is that right?

I'll look into it again. I just got confused as to where I post the info up...got distracted...etc.etc.

And the senior member thing? I see people listed as senior member with less than 1000 posts?

I dunno. But I will pour a cocktail and give it some thought, to what extend I'm capable.

I always thought the WHEELS represented how many times you've been ARRESTED for drug manufacturing/distribution/"medicinal use"/hoarding of limes, and the ANCHORS represented how many times you've been CONVICTED of same??? ;?

Regards,

Keep in mind that back then there were no advertising dollars as Wiley (and many) thought that taking advertising money could compromise the integrity of information here. Many of us saw the value in the site so we donated. For me, it took one member who gave advice that saved me a bunch of time and money and I wanted to give.

The wheels meant you were a financial supporter of the forum. It indicated you had joined the "Captain's Club." When you bought merchandise you qualified for a wheel. Five wheels converted into the white anchor emblems, five of those into the gold anchors like you see above by "Snapper Head." If it had gone on long enough we'd have probably gone on to cannons, hats, swords or other icons. I was personally hoping for topless mermaids.

IB only sells the single-purchase Admiral Club icon. Wiley barely scratched the surface of the sponsorship potential of this site when IB bought him out and got serious. They are less interested in 'fandom' and more interested in hits-per-day which is what draws advertisers to a web site.

However the owners make their money, it's still a good place to waste time.
