Default Gas pump rage vs road rage...get in line!

So my boy and I venture into town to pick up a few groceries while my wife and daughter nap after our long weekend at the lake. No worries something we do frequently...just me and him.

If you don't want to read...I was approached by a phsyco and my truck was physically accosted.

We make our way through the store and head back to the truck and decide to get some gas for the ride home. Parking lot is quite full and double stacked around the gas pumps. We meander around to a line where a see a single truck parked and he's just about done filling up. Cool so I pull in behind him while my son and are talking about the weekend. I see a guy come walking up to me smiling as the guy in front of me starts to pull away. Hmm, maybe he thinks he knows me? I don't recognize him. I roll my window down and say my standard howdy. He does the same and says....."sir, I was next in line so I need you to back up and let me pull in." He turns around and starts to walk away. I'm dumbfounded and in shock. I snap out of it and hang my head out the window and say..."No, this is America and it's standard practice to get in line so I'm pulling up..hey I'm only getting $20 worth". By this time the lady on the next gas lane looks around and asks if everything is OK. I say yes ma'am. He starts walking back towards the truck turns around and lays into me calling me all kinds of names while my 2 years old son hears it all. I start to pull up some more just to try and let the guy know he's not going to get in line unless it's BEHIND me. He then walks in front of my truck and slams his fist into it I guess to scare me. I stay calm, look over at the lady and say did you just see that. She asks if she should call the cops and I say no. He got in his vehicle and sped off. No damage to the truck but now I know my son has heard and seen some really asinine behavior.

Calmer minds did prevail but what the hek is wrong with people these days? Should I have pushed him with my truck or just flat out ran him over and called the cops stating I just encountered someone flattened in the parking lot? Put a cap in his arse...no not really but sheesh. I wasn't carrying but reminded myself I won't leave it behind again.....

Y'all be safe out there.

Guess it all depends where the 'line' started......sometimes it's not directly in front of each individual gas pump....

You're right. It's usually just behind the patron that is at the pump. He was parked 25-35 yards away under a stand of trees near the curb. He was just looking for trouble.

I'm not going to pass judgment on this one because I wasn't there, but I can vision the error of your ways by what you've said. Volume of gas/ fuel pumped has no merit on the principal.

IMHO the direction of flow around the pumps should remain like the flow of traffic on the road and it is only A-holes that go against the flow just because there is a small opening.

I don't know why but this sounds like a case of the one car speeds up, cuts in to steel the parking space away from the other driver that is just about to take it.

Appreciate you not passing judgement Garret. Witnesses saw the whole thing go down and all saw him sitting across the way with ample opportunity to pull in behind way before I arrived. He was looking for trouble.

The question is, would your demeanor have been different were you armed, would you have encourage him knowing you have the ace in the hole.

Nope. I've got a better head on my shoulders than one might think. Plus my son was with me. He could have destroyed my truck and I would have laughed but called the cops. Touching me or my son would have been a completely different outcome. Material stuff can be replaced.

Never really gave it much thought. but wouldn't what side of your car, the filler is on dictate what direction your car is facing?

Even if you thought someone did cut you off at the pump, his initial interaction with you was not the way to handle it. I think he was just having a bad day and taking it out on someone else. I've never punched someones vehicle in line at a gas pump even if I did think I was next. Patience is a virtue.

Sometimes its not worth the battle. I've backed out of a gas pump before when somebody really thought they needed to gas up before me. oh well. If my kids are with me I swallow my pride and protect them first.

Had a Dbag last week in the left lane (a Avalanche if it matters) at a red light. Goes from 2 lanes after the light to one in about 200 yards. I'm in my lifted Wrangler which is about as fast as a horse and buggy.

I come up to the light in the right lane in no particular rush and the light turns green so I proceed through. Maybe doing 8 mph. Guy in left lane guns it after I pass him and I'm in the position to get squeezed/hit the brakes or accelarate and merge left. So I speed up and pull left. If I knew he had to be first I would have slowed and waved him by.

Guy proceeds to tailgate me for next mile. Idiot pissed because he didn't get to be first. So since my daughter riding with me, I soon pull into a right right turn lane, let the DB pass and drop in behind him.

Of course he now is in no rush, and makes a left hand turn, no signal of course.

If my daughter was not with me I probably would have given him a friendly wave.
