Default Brand vs Generic Brands

Here's a Rainy day question... (Supposed to stop later today or tomorrow - I am so itching to uncover the boat. The heck with the freegin snow still on the ground...Then another washout weekend is predicted. Hopefully, that will get rid of the last of the white crap.
)

-Other than boat and boat products are there any consumer items that you have to buy the brand name and not the generic?? I have found many times the lowest price is just as good but sometimes the brand name is worth the extra $$$. Are there any brand names that you feel are superior to the competition and pay extra for???

charcoal is actually one place I don't like the namebrands, mainly because it is hard to find lump charcoal with a brand name on it. Kingsford is fine in my book for slow cooking, but I would rather stick to hardwood and a burn barrel and us lump coals for cooking steaks.

I agree, but after last summer, we have switched to Hunt's. I don't feel that the difference in taste overrides the bad feeling in my stomach.

Generic things I like:
Cereal, most taste just as good as the brand name stuff, but are LOTS cheaper.

I do not have sufficient quote skills so I'll just say....

Ditto to all ya'll.

Kingsford no doubt. About the only way to get Embers brand lit is with a blow torch and a mig welder.

I prefer Jiff peanut butter but there is no comparison To Jiff, Skippy, and Smuckers to the store brand stuff. People will tell you it tastes the same but, take the good stuff on a weekend horse camping trip and watch the cheapies eating your PBJ and ignoring theirs.

Bush's Baked beans OMG!

I spent 8 hours one day. White beans + 49 ingredients simmer, simmer, simmer, simmer, simmer. My sister in-law brings over Bush's one can regular, one can homestyle, add some onion, green pepper, bacon strips throw it in a casserole dish, put it in the oven, 45 minutes later let's eat. No one ate more than a spoonful of mine . I don't blame them that is one thing I will never, ever try to do homemade again.

I don't think this one has been mentioned yet....Lance square nabs.

And just because I'm in the mood to get something started.

Eastern NC Vinegar based Bar-b-que sauce! Not that syrup the rest of the state and country uses.

sscott, ever go to Gboro to get BBQ?

Auto, I bet most southerners prefer Dukes. Funny how that is. Rusty Anchor and Dockside crank up soon.

Is Gboro Greensboro or Goldsboro?

If you mean Goldsboro, yes that is where I work. If I'm paying for it I eat at McCalls, If someone else is picking up the tab I will eat with the Democrats at Wilber's. If you get to eat in Wilson I love Parker's and Bill Ellis.

Yep, Goldsboro. I'm with you on Mccolls, but Wilbers or Scotts will do. Bills is good. Amen on the vinegar based sauce.

come on now, you gotta give the midlands SC BBQ some credit, nothing quite like a tangy mustard base. oh, and on the dockside/rusty anchor thing, bring on the girls, it's been two long years without water.

Girl talk, you spend much time on murray? if so send me a PM or an email at ejacks@charter.net and we will have to drink a beer or 10 sometime.

Dudes, if Wiley doesn't approve of religious or political discussions, what makes you think he is going to tolerate us talking about Bar-B-Q?
