This is a great thread...Would love to see Naples' work his magic on some of the pics. Maybe he could enhance your profile pic? Let's have some fun with this.

Between wives, I also did the online dating thing. It was still in infancy in those days (circa 1995). AOL and dial up ruled the world then. There was no broadband. But man, I met a lot of woman! Yes, even met the current Admiral there.

It wasn't so "profile" oriented then, like today's dating sites. It was Chat Rooms. You'd wander in, strike up a conversation, go private, and take it from there. You learned quickly that anybody named "SexyChick319" wasn't sexy at all and that number in her screen name probably referred to her weight! You'd get your share of winners and losers.

A couple of the losers still make me laugh:

One gal sent me a picture of herself, I sent her mine. Hey, not bad. We agreed to meet for lunch. I'm standing there waiting for her to show up when a stranger walks up to me and asks if it's me by my screen name. Yes, who are you? She was my lunch date. And a total toad, not even the same person in the picture. I asked her why she sent me a picture of someone else. Her answer? I knew if I sent you my real picture, you'd never agree to meet me. Uhhhhh, you were right. Bye loser!

Again another one, we meet for lunch. This time, she does look like her picture, not a raving beauty, but ok, not hideous. We sit down and order lunch. She mentions that, if she should seem weird, get aggressive or hostile during lunch, that I shouldn't take it personally. I'm like WTF? She tells me she's bi-polar and even on her meds, still occasionally goes off the deep end. Wow. I'm doing great with the online dating stuff - 0 for two on looney toons!

Eventually, a group of us set up happy hours at local watering holes so you could actually meet the person behind the screen name. We'd all wear our little "Hello My Name Is:" tags and it worked out great. The bars would give us discounts because we'd bring in 50-75 people at a time. You got to weed out the losers well in advance. Showing up at those events provided an unending supply of what I needed at the time - sex. Kinda miss those days!

I tried pof after my divorce,I met a couple of girls ,and then the emails started to slow down to a craw. After a few weeks I started to wonder what was going on.Being curious one night I clicked on the looking sexual hook up link.No really I was just curious.Aparently if you do that 5 or more times it shows up in your profile when women look at it.Also women have their profiles screened to not let you look at their proflie if you have looked at more than 5 sexual hook up profiles...oh well

Oh the AOL days. WOW, the memories. Yes, there were many toads out there, but missions were accomplished rather easily.

I tried Match......it's not for this cat

first date the gal weighed about 200 lbs more than her picture....argh

it was like going to a junkyard looking for a new car.........in tall grass and weeds

and when try to sign off the site, they make it nearly impossible and continue to charge renewals on your CC.
Even after you think your signed off......your not

Unfortunately - I have very limited time. I work roughly 60 hours a week in an office job diminated my mostly men. Besides - I won't fish in the company pond. I have my kids 1/2 of the week and every other weekend... My circle of friends are mainly married - but don't want to be set up with a common friend right now. I have explained that to a few of them. My intentions with any match that they send my way are less than pure - and I don't want to negatively impact my friendships. I would rather be honest about my expectations with a stranger and go from there.

The time I do have - I really don't feel like being a 38 year old guy and trolling the bar scene. Being boatless right now also sucks - but that's only temporary.

This way - I have access to a much broader range of the wimmins that I am interested in. I can window shop all I want and do so at my leisurely pace.

They are... its the physical barrier of time and location. This is a much faster, arguably more efficient way to do this... keep in mind - I'm not looking for a relationship per se - just to date and have a good time relatively drama free.

Drama Free? Have you not learned anything about the female species?
And you've been married and going through a divorce. Damn it man ... do we here on THT have to now school you in "Women 101"?

No schooling needed. Drama free is a joke. It doesn't exist. What I should clarify - as little drama as possible. Meaning - I will do as little as possible to bring it on myself.

Dragging them by the hair into your cave is still very effective.
