Interesting situation I'd say.

I wonder if Kingston is in the heart of Tenn. where the good ol' boyz live?

A deputy and a "Ride-along" went to serve an arrest warrant? I'd guess theres a lot more to this story.

I live in Kingston, fairly close to the actual scene, and the story takes way too long to tell. for this forum. The recent posting of the photos has reopened some old wounds. The brothers were not found guilty of criminal charges, since the "who shot first" question could only be answered by the survivors, but they lost the civil case (like OJ). So far, they are just snubbing their noses at the civil settlement, and have filed enough motions and lawsuits to tie up the judicial system for years. Some folks are just above the law, unfortunately...
Gruesome deaths for the deputy and ride-along.

Default Short version

The Deputy and ride-along (a former LEO) went on patrol, driving past the shooter's home. The observed the brothers on the grounds, with a couple of friends/relatives. The patrol car pulled into the driveway, apparently to serve a warrant (the brothers were not unfamiliar to legal proceedings in the area, including death threats to a judge) and a gunfight ensued. The brothers testified that the deputy fired first, striking one of the brothers in the backside with a round from his service Glock. The brothers returned fire in self defense with semi-auto rifles, striking the two victims more than 20 times, including a shot to the head from close range (after the victim had fallen from the vehicle) that blew his jaw more than 20 feet. The victims could not provide their version at trial. The trials were separated, one had a hung jury (said to be 11-1 guilty), but they were not given the option of a lessor conviction, such as 2nd degree. The other brother's trial also had a hung jury, after which the judge screwed up his jury instructions, and the brother could not be retried since this represented double jeopardy. Eventually, they walked. They did lose a civil trial on the charges (like OJ) brought by the victim's spouses, but haven't paid and basically ignore the legal process. the brothers claim a variety of government conspiracies have been in play since the one brother lost his job as a security guard at the nuclear weapons facility in nearby Oak Ridge...
