Default New thread on ports being shut down

OK letís keep the Union bashing out of this one, shall we?

If the ports do get closed down by unions striking or by unions being locked out, how will that effect our food, oil, product supply?

Should we be doing a little stocking up on grains in case it goes on for a month or two, will oil prices be going up because we can't off load oil tankers?

Letís keep it informative, thanks guys.

Don't most goods come into the US via the western ports?

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

More worried about oil imports getting in, food is easy to stock up on, rice, taters meat, plus that gets shipped by truck and some will always fall off the back of one. Oil is another bird. Will fill all my gerry cans, boat etc to keep the Mrs car rolling, I can use my scoot.

i hope to shit imported oil shuts the fuck down. ya it will suck but maybe "the powers that be" will be forced to tap into domestic oil supplies and production.

You think there is a pipe somewhere we can just tap into and get 60% of our oil supply?
Is the strike just east coast and gulf, or west coast also?

The affected area will be from Maine to Texas. Everything will be re-routed through Canada and mexico and the west coast. No HUGE change as if we go on strike it will ONLY be for 3 days (IIRC) and we go back to work for 3 months to try and sort things out. I can assure you the sky is NOT falling

I don't believe it will happen. Too close to Christmas and I think the economy will be in the crapper by then.

YES!

We should be ok on most food stuff and domestically supplies stuff (unless the teamsters go on strike to show "solidarity") but the selves at wal-mart and similar stores will be bare within a few days.

I had to choose between a brewery and a distillery because I had to have somewhere for the helicopter; the helicopter that takes me to the football games.

Damnit, I forgot the Jet A.................
