Default Cost of painting a vehicle?

Who here has had a truck or large car or van painted?
How much $$$ did it run? Did you have it painted the same color as it was before?

Semi, painting is like anything else. You really get what you pay for.

The question is really how good of a paint job do you want???

I mean you can get the good ole Earl Schieb "I'll paint any car, any color, for $99.95" - where they don't do squat but shoot the paint (and cheap paint that). Or you can pay a pretty penny to have ALL the door handles, seals, key holes, bumbers, gille and any other trim pieces removed for a truly professional job along with a professional pinstripe application, if you so desire.

Anyways, to answer your question. Most places that you would even consider "decent" are going to run at least $750 and up. Personally, I would expect to pay on the order of at least $2k for a paint job I would be proud of without having overspray in the wheel wells, on the wheels and underneath the bumpers. Details like those are where you start paying more. Basically you being paying not only for quality work, but quality paing (which isn't cheap) and for attention to detail.

I have worked for my Father's autobody shops for 10 years and will and have been saying ythe same as ReelWork to customers. I would not touch a vehicle for under 2 grand for an acceptable paint job. The hours involved for a nice paint job are high and the paints are not cheap, epoxy primers, tints at about $150 a pint, was astronomical, our paint/material costs destroyed profit ratios.
You do all the prep work, remove the not painted items and take it to the $99.95 special place, keep it a year while it looks shiny and sell it. I would have spent that much in tape alone just spraying the primer coat.

A guy down the street quoted me $1500.00. That was if I de-trimmed everything on my Bronco it needed no body work. The paint was a PPG enamel not base/clear. If he de-trimmed it went to $2500.00. He also said no tape offs trim must come off. Broncos are kinda big at that. He is very good and came recomended. Hope it helps.......I agree you get what you pay for....

I have a Bronco also and was looking to get it painted last year. It has NO body work whatsoever and the three shops that I took it to wanted anywhere from $3000 to $4000!

Same color, nothing special.

Two of the three shops told me exactly the same thing, "It will cost us too much money to paint your truck because of all the insurance work we'd be missing out on by taking the time to paint your Bronco!"

Gee, I wonder why auto insurance is so damn expensive nowadays???
