Unhappy Pet Adoption - Part 2

Too make a long story short...........

I guess I have a LOT of good Karma coming my way. My wife and I both had questions about the dog we adopted, to make a long story short I put an add on Craigslist about 3-4 hours ago and my wife called MLR to get more info on the person who turned "Lilly" into them at the same time a neighbor of the true owners saw the add and her pictures, within minutes they contacted MLR to find us. MLR called us and said the owners are frantic about the dog. Her son is autistic and this dog is always by his side. The woman came to our house and yes.........its their dog........The family was in Florida seeing a specialist for their son and the dog was at her sisters house in Chester Springs when it ran away and then turned in by someone. The woman's stupid sister never bothered to check with any of the local shelters to see if someone brought a dog into them.

I knew the dog was special from the moment we saw her, she was too kind and gentle. It turned out to be true, the dog sleeps with the autistic son, she helps to calm him down.
I have a clear conscience, I'm glad I I put the add on Craigslist.

Here's the part that pisses me off. The first thing out of the mouth from the person who runs MLR is we legally don't have to give the dog back. WTF
Sure, tell me the dog belongs to a 7 year old severely autistic boy and you think their is an option NOT to return the dog

The search will continue.......

Well the dog was in good hands, lucky for them it was you who adopted her. I'd say you're loaded with good karma

Did they refund your adoption fee and give you a credit to cover the food you bought?

Im glad the kid got his dog back and im glad the dog got his family back, you did the right thing!

This is why you should pay the ~$70 bucks it costs to get your dog microchipped!!!

MLR did put a chip in her last week. I put blame on the woman's sister who was watching the dog at her house.
And believe me, this woman was PISSED at her sister. She never checked with any of the local places. This was over 3 weeks ago the sister lost the dog. The family was in Florida until this past Friday........they had no idea the dog was gone because the sister wanted to tell them in person. Sad story that turned out great in the end

The rescue said nothing about a refund..........they said they would make it right by finding us another dog. Sorry, they had their chance. My wife is writing a letter to them now basically saying we want the $200.00 we donated. We are not sure we are going to use them again

If you have the dog chipped at the shelter they will usually do it for $25 - $30.

Just so people know that they may as well go ahead and get it done there rather than at the vet.

You have the right to feel pretty damn good about that one.

Thank You

I would love to hear more about what "didn't feel right". You guys are clearly pretty perceptive

Chris
We new from the moment the dog jumped in the back of my truck and curled on the back seat. She was too good to be true, this was not a true rescue dog, it was not a throw away. My gut feeling was she was a runaway and her owners did not know........which in the end turned out to be true. She new every command I threw at her, sit, down, stay, roll over, leave it, give. She was extremely gentle an caring. She watched ever moment we made.

I got a call from the owner this afternoon thanking us once again. Lilly did have a chip but for some reason it did not read, her vet this morning put in another one. She is an Autism Assistance Dog
