It's not just the producer's quest for profit's that leads to this kind of animal handling, it's America's unsatiable thirst for cheap protein as well. Consumers have options like buying locally raised meat/produce/food but you pay for it too.

Don't know about pigs but lobster..
The big buyers are told what the price has to be for the large national chains to buy volume. So the dealers keep dropping the price till it gets to that level. It probably is the same for pigs.. either sell me pork for xyz or keep it. They relly don't care how the price gets low as long as it is low.

It's a tough one. I think modern day agriculture has done a poor job of understanding that the vast majority of people are totaly removed from how their food is raised. Those gestation stalls actually keep the sows from fighting and keeps them better fed because a weaker sow will not get pushed aside by the more dominant ones at the feeder. Funny thing, we never had them on our farm because they are expensive (or my dad was cheap). I suppose in 10 years time there will be videos of sows in pens or outside that are all cut up along with some that are emaciated from not getting feed (due to the new, more socially acceptable pen). Cutting tails and castrating pigs. I am not sure how to make that look pretty. It is absurd to think that each piggie should get anesthesia. Heck, the majority of human babies don't when they are circumsized.

There's another reason why I don't shop for meat at WallyWorld or for anything for that matter.

"Confining mother pigs in such crates is so blatantly cruel that the practice has been banned by the entire European Union, New Zealand, and the states of Florida, Arizona, Oregon, Colorado, California, Maine, Michigan, and Rhode Island."

If it hasn't been banned in Massatwoshits, how bad can it be?

I can't stand to watch what they did to the piglets. They don't have to throw them against the floor like that. I hate walmart.

The same could be said about fishermen. It is just that fish don't trigger the anthropomorphic responses from urban and suburban humans that mammals do.

Here is a good video concerning castration and the misperception made by the HSUS and PETA types. Same holds true to the OP's video...

Just finished some nice smoked ribs. Used a little too much cayenne for the kids though.
