Default Wedding Suggestions

Well, as luck would have it, I'm getting married...and to a girl. Modern, I know.

Anyway, we were discussing which island in the Caribbean would be the ideal "destination wedding" place.

It has to have one part beauty, eight parts affordability and 27 parts rum.

We are from a world away so everybody would be travelling a long distance to get there anyway, and as we all know, we all have different economic accessibility.

Any ideas? I'm talking specific ideas, as in, go here, talk to her, get this deal.

Our biggest concern is family that have kids. Some of them have lots of the little bastards. An ideal place would have tiers of all-inclusive accommodation.

I thought, who better to ask than a group of alcoholic island runners.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sincerely,
JD

My daughter got married under a gazebo at the end of a long pier extending out into the ocean in Key West. We all stayed at the Casa Mara resort nearby. It was very nice and only cost a few jillion dollars. When are you tying the knot? Do you want to go south in the summer? Where are you from?

Beaches in Turks and Caicos? Great spot for kids...all inclusive. Maybe you can get a deal for "x" # of confirmed guests?

Have you considered an all inclusive resort? There are some pretty good deals out there.

Need to time of year right now most islanders want to leave. Bahamas offer a lot of deals and probably the best deals. Personal security is a big item on some islands.

We went to Ambergris Caye Belize. Tropical, different and relatively affordable. 2nd largest great barrarier reef in the world - great scuba and snorkling.

I would recomend Victoria House.

We got married on a cruise out of Miami and had a hoot. Families and friends were spread all over the country so this seemed like the easiest solution. Just had a small group of folks - under 20 total - and it worked out great. Carnival offered a great group rate and wedding package. There were plenty of activities for both grown ups and kids, and the younger crowd and older crowd both found things to do. We made a point of eating dinner together as a group but other than that it was fend for yourself. One of the highlights for me was cigars and bourbon on the fantail at night for the guys while the ladies caught a show.

After we got back to Miami my new bride and I hightailed it to MIA, picked up a convertible, and spent 10 days doing Jimmy Buffet activities throughout the Keys. No itinerary, just eat/drink/sex and stop to sleep wherever looks good. Worked our way from Largo on down to KW and stayed at some really cool spots.

I think our entire wedding, soup to nuts, came in around $25k. That includes airfare, hotel, food, cruise, etc for everyone, copious amounts of rum drinks, pictures, and the boondoggle in the Keys. That's pretty cost effective IMO.

Out of country will require passports for all your guests and the hassle that goes with that.
