Default Holy ****! - A 500 terawatt laser!

I saw today the guys at Lawrence Livermore labs in California made a laser shot 100 times more powerful than any ever before - at peak power, just for an instant, it produced 500 trillion watts.

In THT terms, that is the equivalent of 670 BILLION Yamaha f350s running at full throttle.

I want one!

So pretty much what you're telling me is that some guy in Cali made a laser that is about half as powerful as an ETec?

NIF is one amazing facility. The building HVAC system is probably the most amazing in the world, and their ability to "grow" the glass for the units was an impressive technological accomplishment.

I think I've seen this before. They used the laser mounted on a satellite to make popcorn inside the professor's house. An old favorite movie.

Congrats TopCat! You've found the first topic ever that nobody on THT can even fake a knowledge of!

1 terawatt = 1.0 × 10+24 picowatts 1 TW = 1.0 × 10+24 pW
1 terawatt = 1.0 × 10+21 nanowatts 1 TW = 1.0 × 10+21 nW
