Default Teaching my son.

Almost 50 minutes later my son finally has the knowledge of being able to wear a tie, and tying it on his own!!!!!

That was some of THE most frustrating 50 minutes of my life .

How old is he? I ask because he's probably going to forget it by tomorrow.

12 years of catholic education here so I have been tying ties since 1st grade. Dad wouldn't allow a clip on.

Qb1rdman...He is 14, Funny thing he has been in Catholic school since the first grade. The school he went to did not require a tie??????

Pierless...That is the first knot I am teaching him. This all came about because he is flying to Houston in the morning to visit his snooty very rich aunt, my sister!!! who is taking him to spend a week at the Four Seasons in Dallas She paid for him to fly 1st class both ways. The bad habits he will come back with is enough to make me cry! I love my sister, but she sure is a snob!!!!

Uncle john.... Nothing, and I do mean Nothing really bothers me. By the age of 15 I had witnessed what most folks never ever see. I really do go with the flow, so to speak. Unfortunately, I have not led a very easy life, wish I could say I did. His attention span was about 15 seconds with these knots.

Bowtie........ good luck with that one!

Those knots are not easy

Funny that we have an arsenal of fishing knots but when it's time to tie learn to tie a tie it's almost as if the word tieing was not in our vocabulary lol

I taught all three of my boys how to tie a tie. About 3 months ago one of my sons in college skyped me at work and I walked him through tying a tie. He had a formal fraternity thing to attend and had forgotten how to tie a tie. Skype worked great.

I very nearly forgot how to tie a tie. Only ever learned one tie-knot. Half Windsor, I believe. I work in electronics, and have only had to wear a tie to work once in 15 years (not on interview day, either). Had to go to a wedding a few weeks ago, and I drew a blank for a bit. Finally came back to me, otherwise I was going to have to check youtube.

Now That's one thing I will not have to worry about. If you know me, and some of my posts, then you know my son will never have ANY concerns with math. I have NO IDEA HOW!!!!!! but my son pegs the I.Q. at just around 175 ish, (last tested) . Bona fide genius, again....don't ask me how, I am a very nice person who would give you my shirt if you needed it, but I was not in line when God handed out diploma's or brains for that matter.

What I struggle with each and everyday with him is Common Sense. He has NONE!!!!!

That can get you killed in a hurry!

Reminds me of my time in high school. I went to a boarding school that required ties every day so I had my dad teach me before I started freshman year. Fast forward to junior and senior years when I was a dorm prefect assigned to the freshman hall and for the first few months I'd have 10-15 freshmen at my door every morning at 7am asking me to tie their ties. I wasn't happy about having to pad in that extra time in the morning so I started having them all leave their ties hanging on my doorknob before they went to bed. I'd tie them all before I went to bed and leave them hanging so they could just pick them up as they left in the morning. Luckily it only lasted a couple months before they discovered instructional YouTube videos and figured out how to do it on their own.
