Default Lake Norman - NC

Heading up this coming weekend for a week up there on the lake, taking the boat.
What should I watch out for, We are staying in mooresville, we are staying at a house right in the middle of the lake in the brawley shool rd area.

Any input would be appreciated.

The lake is very well marked, actually it is basically idiot proof from a navigation perspective. The main channel is over 90 feet deep and the coves are all deep too, with shallow water clearly marked

The main thing you need to worry about is clueless operators and drunks which are both unfortunately over abundant on Lake Norman especially on weekends

Watchout for checkpoints on Brawley School Rd. Also watch out for drunk topless coeds dancing at the sandbar and party cove. The Rusty Rudder and Vinnie's are 2 good spots to grab some lunch on the water with docking. Rusty Rudder has fuel, ice, beer, ect and good looking girls working the pumps usually.

Everybody here pretty much hit the nail on the head Lake Norman is around 50 sq miles so it is a pretty good size lake. Watch out for all the drunk captains running the 30 + cruisers wide open to get back to the marina as the sun goes down though. It is a lot of fun for water sports lots of good clean water and deep so never gets to rough and you can always find a good party on Lake Norman.

Thanks everyone, sounds like fun. May hit a sand bar to see some naked coeds, but plan to mainly stay out of the lime light.

From Memorial Day to Labor Day, standing on my brother's floating dock, channel front, is like trying to ride a really angry bull. Expect a wild ride on the weekends.

The sand bar is between channel markers 4 and 5 behind the island. Go in from the North side. The South side is real shallow. It's 1 cove South of The Rusty Rudder.

Do they still have the no rafting rules and still have the signs that prevent people from putting a boat near the sandbar?

I don't know the answer to that Squid Row. My boat is at the coast so I haven't been in a while. I have been since the rafting signs were put up and people were still tieing up. I think the rule is only 4 boats or less can be tied together. People just don't attach a line to every fifth boat I think.
