Default ThermaCell Revististed

I read a thread about the benefits of a thermacell unit on a boat to keep the ankle biting black flies away.

I bought one and used it while perching and with winds a bit breezy. The unit was fired up and placed on the cockpit floor between my wife and I who were fishing off the stern end of the boat.

The black flies continued to hit both of us.

Are these things only effective in calm winds on boats?

Edit.........cockpit, not cabin floor

their effectiveness diminishes with a stiff breeze.

They only work with still conditions in my experience. However, I have never tried to combat black flies with one. In my experience they work great against skeeters and gnats if there's no wind.

This is what use for the gnats (no see ums), you also smell purty after you put it on. Works pretty good as a sunblock also.

Avon used to make a Skin Soft oil that kept the biters away. Don't know if the stuff is still available, but I know it worked.

Victoria's Secret Vanilla Lace for gnats. There is another scent from them that works too, but I forgot the name. Just go into a store and ask. Don't be afraid to ask, around here they know what you are talking about because it has become so popular. Get some panties for your lady friend too and everybody is happy.
