Default Any Amazon Prime members here?

Wondering if its worth it...$79 a year for two day shipping on stuff that amazon sells. Seems like a good deal if youre like me and dont want to deal with stores, parking, and a truck that gets 10 mpg. Anybody got it?

Yep.

I buy a lot of stuff off Amazon, so the cost of shipping my stuff by itself usually covers the cost of the Prime membership. There are other benefits as well:
- Amazon has a lot of on-demand video (works like Netflix on demand). The Prime membership gives you access to it for free.
- If you have a Kindle, the Prime membership gives you access to a free lending library. Selection is meh, but if you don't care what you read, you'll get a freebie each month.
- Sometimes they'll run promos where instead of getting the 2-day shipping, if you opt for standard shipping they'll put a buck into your Amazon Music account for MP3 downloads. I'll usually jump on this, as I normally get my Amazon orders within 2-3 days anyway.

IMO, definitely worth it. I walk into a mall about once a year nowadays.

Definitely worth it. I probably average 1-2 packages a week from amazon. With prime, I don't care if it's a $8 item, I can just order it online or from my phone and 2 days later it's at my doorstep.

Amazon isn't just for misc household crap - I've bought auto parts, my home A/C filters arrive from them on a schedule, and most of my electronics that way.

In most states you won't pay sales tax from Amazon, either, which will pay for your prime membership quickly on big ticket items - although from what I hear that is changing quickly.

The Prime free shipping is only on items that are fulfilled by Amazon, and I don't think they do a lot of boat stuff directly, except for real generic stuff maybe. For instance, I ordered a Simrad cable from them the other day, but it was fulfilled by some place in Brooklyn. I got the item within 2 days, but I did have to pay the shipping (~$7).

Yep. Love it. for all the reason mentioned so far plus one more. A cool thing that you can do is order presents for people and have it shipped to them quickly for free. Comes in real handy at Christmas and other occasions. You can mark it as a gift so the receipt is not with it.

No not worth it to me. I get free shipping anyway, just takes a few more days to deliver.

Had it once, gave it up. I just didn't save a buck.

amazon is about to begin free next day shipping to counter their loss of sales due to paying tax now.

Default I really like it

One example...

I am in a rural area and realized I needed a 150 quart cooler yesterday. I caught some fish that stuck out of my 75 quart cooler....

Today, my 150 quart cooler appeared. Yeah it was $8.99 for Saturday with Prime but way more without...

We also pretty much equipped our Keys home this winter with free second day via Prime.. The UPS guy was happy for the traffic. Our neighbors in the Keys are all over it..

I actually do try to buy locally when I am able but for these locations I really like it.

Our free "Amazon Mom" prime runs out next month... We've enjoyed the year of it, and I'm tempted to renew, but $79 is pretty expensive. Has anyone ever seen any discounts for it?

Big time user of Amazon. Looking at 2011 I placed 34 orders on Amazon.

Over half qualified for the prime account. Just 3 orders would have cost more than the $79 I know.

Few years ago I had a 61inch Samsung LED TV delivered I bought with free shipping.

Plus with the Prime you can share it with other family members.

Not worth it for me - I get free shipping as most of the stuff I buy is eligible for the economy shipping anyway. My daughter loves it as she buys lots of stuff like diapers and so forth that I am guessing are not in the $25 free shipping catagory and if its stuff through a 3rd party you come out way ahead, I think - or maybe it does not include stuff not bought diretly form amazon - better check that out.....

I have been a member for several years. I just pulled my order report from 1/1/12 to today. It shows 37 orders with 26 having free shipping.

Yes, it is worth it for me.

Hah, hadn't thought of that.

29 orders placed in 2012
30 orders placed in 2011

So on average my "free" 2 day shipping cost me under $3 an order last year, and looks like under $2 an order this year.

Can't beat that. BTW, it's a little bizarre, Amazon has all my order history back to 1999... apparently, I used to order **books** from Amazon!
