Default Automated Gate Openers

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with automated gate openers.

I just fabricated a pair of cedar gates for my driveway. They are 4 feet tall and 7.5" wide and weigh approximately 60+ Lbs each. They are located approximately 300 feet from the house. I know I'd need to trench out an electrical wire. The driveway is unpaved (gravel/soil).

My question is; What gate opener would you recommend and any other advice, tips, etc you may have.

I found that Home Depot sells a kit for just under $1000. Not sure if it's any good though.

TIA

we have 2 of them...you can get much better quality and value on line...one of ours here in Baja has a 12 volt car battery backup, but a 110 volt main..its 12 feet wide.. our gates are wrought iron and one is powder coated aluminum...we got them from these guys: http://www.gatedepot.com/

I have one, it opens a 20' sliding chain link gate. They are pretty much self contained. Just run power to it. Most run on a 12 volt battery and the power is just to keep the battery charged.

I used this model. Well it's the older version of this model. I have had it for about 6 years with no problems.

Gee I would think you could get away with a couple of double A batteries if you geared it right. .....so what kind of single seater car do you drive?

Look for one of the solar models. You can just mount the panel on one of the posts. Bury the battery next to it in a rubbermaid box or small cooler.

I don't have to run out and open the gate when momma comes home and the power is out. I loose power often in the winter. Momma hates getting out of the car and opening the gate.
