I had dozens of opportunities to see him and never did.

Deeply regret that.

One of those people you have heard about your whole life. As in who he influenced. I don't know if I have ever heard anything he has done but sure in the heck knew who he was. RIP Doc.

My wife and two other couples originally from NC saw Doc at a concert in Libertyville, IL where we were living at the time. He made us cry with his stories of pintos and corn bread, his neighbors, and his NC home. God bless him and his family.

Saw him and Merle on a wooden indoor stage in Asheville around '82. Wow. The audience was in a trance. And he was funny too.

My father remembers a blind guitar player that would play on the streets of Boone NC when he was at Appalachian in the early 50's. He always wondered later if it was Doc.

Very probably so since Doc was from Deep Gap just up the road from Boone.

I was lucky enough to see him a couple of times.

sorry to hear of the passing of this great legendary man. I saw him several times in my earlier years at different bluegrass festivals around the country.
