Default Which one: 2012/13 Grand Cherokee or Ford Edge?

I've had my 01 Cherokee Classic for 12 years, and I may be replacing with a Jeep GC, or possibly an Edge. (or possibly an F150). All 3 should give about the same mileage, and all 3 are flat-towable behind the RV, when we go on longer trips like winter in Florida).

As far as towing capacity. I won't be doing anything more than towing a small utility trailer a few times a year.

Is one a better choice than the others? 2012, or wait for 2013? I tend to keep vehicles a long time, so I'd like the thing to last. Any thoughts on this?

I had an Edge for 3 1/2 years and it was a good vehicle - no major repairs, reasonable gas mileage, very comfortable, LOTS of room in the back seat (Have to mention this as a strong point for the Edge, even though it may sound minor. Many mid-size vehicles are so concerned with being able to offer 3rd row seating that the 2nd row ends up lacking space. Edge never tried to offer 3rd row and the 2nd row ended up being huge - anyone who ever sat back there mentioned how spacious it was)

Having said that, the Edge is NOT an SUV. If you like the "toughness" of trucks and/or "regular" SUVs, the Edge may not be your cup of tea. I'm also not sure the Edge drivetrain would take to flat-towing, but you've got the experience to check that out for yourself.

My $.02, ymmv.

my wife loved hers it's considered a crossover more than an suv we had the AWD model and was excellent in rain and snow we now have the CX9 we needed a 3rd row. If your looking for an suv the Edge isn't for you. Depending how much your looking to spend the new F150 ecoboost is an amazing truck we have a few at work and a guy I work with bought 1 he loves it and it can tow 10k in case the RV ever broke down you could get it off the road and to a repair station :D

I would go with the new Explorer or Flex JMO. We've had the Flex for 46,000 miles now and what a great vehicle AWD and pulls my 21 & 18 foot boats with no problem plus they have the ECO Boost with 320 HP plus that gets 23 mpg.

Ford, no bail out money. Plus I like Ford way better for dependability, ride and looks. IMO
